Props to Fakhar, that was a brilliant innings. His 4th ton against us this year. Bowlers could have executed better, but he was middling everything.

No issues with DLS. We were absolutely on the ropes. A fight back was possible (in a chase like that even one wicket can change the game) but the right call to give it to Pakistan.

We need a good win vs SL to get through. Afghanistan control their destiny but have to beat both Australia and SA to get through. Their nrr in poor so one win unlikely to be enough for them.

Pakistan has the advantage of last mover - they will go into their England game knowing exactly what they need to do.

D/L can kiss my butt. How can a team win when they are 200 behind, needing nearly 9 an over?

Given they were scoring at nearly 8 an over already, it was clear they could accelerate.

Think positively. It could have been even worse if Neesham was bowling.

These are just crazy games - with almost zero context.

Turns out that 400 was nowhere near an insurmountable score - it might well have been 50 runs short.

The rain coming an hour late may have cost Ravindra a million bucks. Instead of being the second coming of Bradman, maybe he was the guy being outscored by a man who'd played one game in six months and has a broken thumb?

And maybe Kane was the only guy who knew 400 might not be a good score and that's why he was so antsy around the 30 over mark - and got out playing the big shot.

Afridi takes the record for being the most expensive Pakistan bowler at CWCs - and he's the No. 1 ranked bowler in the world!

It's entertainment, but it's a bit too much froth! The bowlers got slaughtered for the third game in a row.

Slow or faster, it doesn't seem to matter who is bowling, they are cannon fodder right now.

The lack of even playing field is not enjoyable right now, not least for the bowlers!

You’ve hit on all the problems with World cricket in a nutshell.

Shit I love a session of good hitting as much as anyone but it is just ridiculous nowadays. Who would want to be a specialist bowler in the shorter forms of the game these days ?

The Black Caps are far too limited in their bowling attack to go deep into this comp. There I said it…..which is a shame cos the batting is strong as fuck.

We've been saying this for 15 years now. More so as T20 took hold.

Yeah - unlikely to be good enough and an obvious step down from India and Oz.

I've got no idea which three seamers we should play. But, playing Ish is not the answer.

I guess if you bat first and post a big enough score there's a chance anyone will fall over against you.

Due to net run rate yes - but it's academic really - there's 3 gun sides and then the 4th side will be making up the numbers in the semi whoever it is

I thought that score against Pakistan would be more than enough, especially against a team so prone to self destructing as they are.

Not the case remotely. They looked completely untroubled.

    So did I.

    So did Ian Smith.

    TAB says to win...

    India 2.00
    Oz 4.00
    SA 4.50
    NZ 8.50
    Pak 19.00

I'm increasingly thinking that this should be the last Black Caps stint for Boult, unless he re-signs a central contract and fully commits again.

Other bowlers who are committed full time to the Black Caps can probably average 38 with the ball too.

Yeah he has been a very good Black Cap but could be time to move on.

In an ideal world I'd love Boult to play for 3-4 more years for the Black Caps, especially with some of the stats in mind like the Southee/Boult partnership ones.

But for guys to contract in and out, picking Boult needs to be clearly better than having, say, Jamieson there from the start instead (or whoever).

Yeah and thinking from a test perspective ( as I always do cos ODI has rapidly become the equivalent of 7s to 15s for me ) the pace attack of Boult, Southee and Wagner are rapidly ageing. Jamieson being fully fit and firing is more important than ever.

Matt Henry has some time too and is a much better bowler than an average of 37 would suggest.

Jimmy Anderson is definitely the exception, not the norm.

Man. ODI cricket. Watching your team bowl these days is like watching your rugby team try to defend 5m lineout mauls for 3 and a half hours.

We serve up far too many pies, it's tough to generate pressure
