Fair Play
Scrolling through Netflix and the girl and I thought we’d give it a hoon.
Young couple working alongside each other in some cutthroat Wolf of Wall Street type set up. Old mate reckons he’s in line for a promotion when someone gets fired, only problem is she gets the job instead.
Both of them change, well can’t say much more without giving the whole thing away.
Very uncomfortable in parts but worth a watch

I’d call this Arnies most underrated film if there is such a thing.
Fucken entertaining and always interesting to see how people in the 80s thought the future ( ie nowish ) would look.
He’s dominant and terrific with some typically awesomely bad one liners, brilliant baddies ( wrestlers and football players always make big tough fluffybunnies ), great action and a bit of a moral message there too.
Such good fun to watch again the other night.

Yeah wife hated it, but I didn’t mind it. Certainly doesn’t glamourise the role like a lot of movies do.

@bayimports It was slow paced, deliberately to reinforce the anti-Wick nature of the idea of a professional assassin.
Not a bad movie by any stretch. Well done, but forgettable.

Yeah I agree, shit I couldn’t watch it repeatedly but certainly thought it was well put together

Titanic
This has aged about as well as Rose did. The CGI is cartoon like, greenscreen obvious and background scenery paintings look like high school art class.
The story line is just as corny as it was in the beginning with masses of overacting.
Tit watch; yes.
3.5 snobby twats out of 5 terrible Italian accents.

Watched My Cousin Vinny again the other day.
Zero plot, loads of stereotypical characters but well-written and brilliantly acted. Fred Gwynne & Joe Pesci outstanding as was Oscar-winning Marisa Tomei.

Fell into a bit of a warhole the last couple of weeks, catching up on shit I'd put on "My List" across various platforms.
Sand Castle - popped up as a recommended, and had Nick Hoult and Superman in it, as well as the smart arse from the latest Top Gun movie, so thought I'd give it a look.
Follows a guy (Hoult) who joined up right before 9/11 to get the College paid for, then finds himself getting shot at. It does well to contrast the tedium of being in-theatre with the moments of pants-shitting action. It doesn't ever really get out of second gear, but then I think that's the point: war might be hell, but it is mostly boring. And trying to fix something you destroyed isn't the best way to win hearts and minds.
War Marchine - pretty sure I'd seen this before, but worth a watch. Based on a Rolling Stone article. Brad Pitt as a four star General, still living in a world where you can win a war, even a counter-insurgency, and live in the belief that your convictions are the best argument ever. The politics of it are the thing, and the military guys want them out of the fucking way. Moments of genuine humour, but mostly not complimentary of the people or processes.
The Siege at Jadotville - this had been on the list for a while, finally got around to watching it last night. Didn't fuck around too much, and seems to match up fairly well with what I'd read about the action elsewhere. Obviously moments of heightened drama for effect, but for me it was the story: days against a numerically superior force and yet no KIA. Amazing stuff, but probably shows the lack of quality in the opposition forces. Mark Strong's portrayal of a politician out of his depth is good, if a little extreme at points.
