After watching The Killer am I to assume that Fincher is a fan of The Smiths? Too much...

    Yes.

Ridiculously so. At best I like one of their songs.

    Also…..

His repetitive monologues got ridiculous. Some reasonably good tension, one of the best fight scenes in a movie for years……..and Fassbender was ruthless and cool but overall not the best flick I’ve seen

I thought it was fine aside from The Smiths. Fucking awful dirge.

Agreed, I think they’re a shithouse band all up.

Not my thing. In fact, I don't think there is a big Manchester band I do like.

The “Manchester” sound is a scourge on music.

    Absolutely awful all round.

Every single band I’ve heard is fronted by some nasally sounding fuckwit over jingly jangly chords and boring rhythms.

And while I am criticising Fincher's artistic choices, where was the close up shot of the dominatrix? I know she is mainly a stuntwoman but dude.

    Step Brothers

In terms of dumb entertainment that’s actually really funny it’s tough to beat this.

Will Ferrall can be pretty hit or miss but he’s terrific in this and John C Reilly matches him every step of the way.

Not quite sure why this flick works but it does, genuine LOL moments.

Slightly disconcerting that I’m quite a bit older than these guys now considering I thought of them as middle aged when I first saw this.

3.5 Catalina Wine Cruisers out of 5 drum kits that you’re not allowed to touch

I'm not typically a Farrell fan - and actually avoided this movie for many years because of him.
But when I did watch it - yeah, good.
Possibly my favourite Farrell moments are actually from Eastbound & Down - the blooper reels. Farrell, McBride, and Craig Robinson - all ad-hoc-ing and straight-facing ...
And recently, in my declining years - have revisited several of the Farrell vehicles... possibly a testimony to my ongoing genocide on braincells - but it's good light entertainment these days.

Edit: - searching for "Step Brothers" on the old raging-rivers these days is fucking rife with peril. What an age we live in.

    Meatballs

    • Much less "risque" than my memory had led me to believe
    • many shit gags, and a saccharine subplot
    • I say "subplot" as if there was an actual "plot"

Titwatch: zero - confounding me. Was I confusing this with other similar movies of the era?

Seems to be a bit of Gerard Butler going on with Amazon at the moment so watched a few ...

    Greenland

Basically Deep Impact / 2012 / Day after Tomorrow plot but taken from an All American good family point of view. Worth a watch if you feel like being a bit depressed

3 dodgy mobile signals out of 5 made it at the last seconds

    Kandahar

Good action flick as you long you accept the Taliban have the same ability to shoot as the average Storm Trooper. Fair bit of propaganda in there too

3 old Hiluxes out of 5 Dodgy Contacts

    Plane

Real B movie based around landing a plane in the Philppines and then have to take on some pretty average rebels. Only good thing was the flight stewardess was proper up my alley.

2 bad actors out of 5 bad actors

    The Covenant

I really enjoyed this flick and and thought Gyllenhal casting was spot on. He absolutely nailed the role.

Rather one eyed look at the Afghan situation but it's well scripted, acted & the main theme is one I think most people will really relate too.

Like Kandahar, Taliban really need to learn how to shoot straight.

4 long walks out of 5 missed Taliban shots.

    Some really good bands there…..

What I meant was bands with that ‘Manchester’ sound like the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and of course Oasis.
