Phillips must be MOTM and MOTS.

Great partnership by him and Satnav, they’ve showed the top order how to play on this pitch.

    Amazing partnership

    They looked largely untroubled

Santner has proven he should have played test 1.

Absolute superstar, I’ve always thought so

Two of the Top Four are fair weather bullies to start with...

Nice mixed metaphor (not really metaphors but you get it). Like it. The alternative, flat track friends, would have worked as well.

I enjoyed that test. Was nice to see runs being so valuable, basically at a multiple of over 2 to 1 compared to what we usually see. It felt like a wicket was as likely than a boundary with each ball, great for some tension with either one having a big impact. Almost like wickets are more important than boundaries which should be a reminder to the organisers of CWCs (yep, still bitter).

@Snowy I was tempted to run with Flat Track, but then I remembered the flat tracks had to be at home for Nicholls. Such a broad brush to apply 🙂

What a shock that yet another one of your cricketing takes that doesn't involve worshipping at the feet (or God knows where else) of a West Indian batsman has aged like milk.

I miss Gayle, is he still playing 20/20 somewhere ? What a legend.

It is nice when you come to correct me and say you told me so though, you should really do it more often.

Now might be a good time to point out that I said that Santner had been great in white ball and @mn5 advised me to downgrade the "great".

I also might have mentioned that I thought Phillips was our best spin option (outside of Ajaz).
    So:

Until my next hugely erroneous prediction.

I wouldn’t take anything I advise on here too seriously.

But yeah, credit to him for playing a massive part in this test win.

He might even get a shot at home now depending on the balance of the team and the fact that Ajaz Patel doesn’t seem much of a batsman.

What I've always liked about Ajaz since he first appeared in the 2018 Pakistan series, is that on the field he looks like playing international cricket for NZ is the best thing ever.

He looked so stoked in that first series, and seems to have kept the enthusiasm up.

Really hope that if we are playing a spinner that it would be Patel. If we have Phillips, and hopefully Ravindra, as options he wouldn't be required as a batting spinner.

Ten wickets in an innings will certainly do that to a mans enthusiasm.

Hell, a kiwi spinner getting six is freakish like he just did.

Surely they have to pick him at home now which may mean Santner misses out depending on the balance of the side ?

If you only get a shot every couple of years enthusiasm shouldn't be an issue but, yep, it is great to see.

There’s that word “great” being thrown around liberally again.

This article might be enough to make you spit your coffee all over your screen…..

I don't think either Patel or Santner have any hope of playing at home unless the groundskeepers specifically start creating pitches that are going to spin. Spinners barely bowl when playing in NZ and Philips can make the team purely as a batter.

This would be my preferred 11 for SA and Australia but it's like Nicholls plays instead of Ravindra.

    Conway
    Latham
    Williamson
    Mitchell
    Phillips
    Ravindra
    Blundell
    Jamieson
    Southee
    Wagner
Boult (I believe he has said he is keen to play)

    Henry for Boult
,Boult will not be available he has signed for MI Emirates in the ILT20, the UAE T20 league, which is played in January and February.

An excellent 30 minute highlight packing YouTube 'T Sports Bangladesh ', if interested.

Includes all the near misses and chances, unlike the normal moronic level of cricket highlights packages.

Was great for me , as missed last night's sessions.

BEEN "great" and A "great" are very different things in my opinion. I have used "been great".

Who tf is Sam Wells? Where did he come from? I dislike him already.

Yeah was only a partial dig at you 😉

Apparently Astle and McMillan were great which I have an issue with.

Just cos they played quite a bit doesn’t make them great, our history is hardly littered with world class batsmen after all.

My 11 for next test. I still go with 4 seamers at home.

    Latham
    Ravindra
    Williamson
    Conway
    Mitchell
    Phillips
    Blunders
    Jamieson
    Henry
    Southee
    O'Rourke

Although it is 2 or 3 months away, so have to see how O'Rourke goes in his white ball opportunities.

Absolutely must, for me, that we move on from Wagner now, but have doubts that Sam Wells, as an age and Otago Volts contemporary of Wagner, may be too close. (Let alone the obvious player power on selections by the senior players)
