    Napoleon.

Bit of a mishmash if truth be told. Cinemaphotography was stunning and the battle scenes outstanding, but the whole thing came across as a bit empty and unfinished.

Joachim Phoenix was pretty poor, maybe because the script was poor or he was just bored by the whole thing. Rupert Everett's Wellington was way more real and engaging despite having a limited screen time.

Bit disappointing. 3 Parisian bordello pleasure techniques out of 5 Austerlitz cavalry charges

Most overrated actor of all time. Have never understood the fascination

Agree, as much as I swim against the tide and think DDL hammed up certain later films (Gangs, Blood) he is genuinely brilliant in the majority of his career, Phoenix was probably last good in Inventing the Abbott's and I probably only remember that due to Jennifer Connelly's boobs.

Even his Joker which you rate is just the same performance he always gives to me.

The flatties and I pretty much destroyed the video cassette rewinding that scene over and over.

Outstanding rack ( which seems to have vanished of late, she was a million times hotter in her youth than she is today )

She's still hot for her age I reckon, she's just aged.

    Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom

Should really be called "... and the Lost Franchise"

I have good memories of the first Aquaman film. We were in Taupo in 2019 during January, and at a bit of a loose end after dinner. While we had to pay cash (they didn't accept Credit Card at the time), we settled in for a bit of Jason "Fucking" Momoa in what was a decent flick from memory.

So a couple of Sundays ago, we were once again at a loose end. The writers strike has given us lean pickings in terms of cinema viewing. The new Aquaman film was on, so what the hell.

The DC franchise is a dumpster fire, by and large. Expectations were low.

    They were met.

The CGI was generally good. The funny parts were mostly funny. But it was just bullshit and failed at any point to generate engagement.

What the hell happened to DC? How do you fůck up Batman Superman and Wonder Woman? I remember watching some amazing DC cartoons with my boys when they were younger. So much good material to work with yet it's gone to poop. Marvel the same obviously, but DC never got anywhere near Marvel levels of success in the past 15 years.

@Rancid-Schnitzel the shine is coming off some Marvel stuff as well. I saw the trailer for something called "Madame Web" and it looks less than even mildly interesting

To go all pedant Madame Web is Sony rather than Marvel (in a movie sense) - even though it has the Marvel branding due to the Spider-man agreement. Sony have essentially ruined Marvel's break this year as I think they have 3 Spider-man adjacent films coming out.

It has Dakota Johnson in it which is almost enough for me to want to watch it.

The shine has been coming off pretty much since End Game. Spiderman is probably the only massive draw left and he's Sony.

They should reboot it with the characters that are actually popular.

I thought it was a Dirty Harry sequel when I first saw it to be honest. Same lead looking and sounding exactly the same lead to that conclusion

    Utu

Haven’t seen it in years and great fun to watch again. Extremely well made for a kiwi film ( fun fact. Quentin Tarantino says it is easily NZs best ever film ) sure the story is essentially pinched from any number of Westerns but it has a cool kiwi slant to it, some stunning rugged scenery, cool action and Bruno Lawrence is just terrific.

One of the (sometimes unsung) heroes of NZ Cinema. He was brilliant in The Quiet Earth - one of the great, underrated Sci Fi films

Happy memories of watching Blerta in some green space (whose name I can't remember) off Lambton Quay.

Not sure. It was on TVNZ on demand. What’s the difference ?
