Thats better from the Canes. Love joins the backline and throws a good long pass to Lakai who scores down the wing

Canes defence is rubbish, hopefully a pre season problem. So many gaps, only MP errors stopping them scoring. 40-26

A bit behind watching this game. HT comments

    Love looks the goods
    Both wings a bit ordinary
Morgan shows again he's not good enough
    Midfield was OK
Penenara looked lively. The new young halfback (Viljoen). Class.

Julian has found his best position. He could be a quality additional at 2nd 5. He's too slow now for wing or even center.

Ends 59-26, with MP looking tired at the end

Standouts for me in this game were Kirifi, Godfrey (please put him at 10), Love, Higgins, Vijoen (the young kid has a beautiful pass), Naholo, Iose and Howden.

Canes have a tone of class backs coming through, just hope they get plenty of opportunity.

Defence was a worry but I’m sure they will up the intensity next week.

I a Godfrey fan, but not really a stabnd out I didn't think (had a couple pf runs only). Like you think maybe he is the future at 10, but I admit to only see him play there for about 20 minutes in Levin last year, so needs ato even get a start there at NPC level for the Bay, he plays 15 for them usually, same as he couldn't vrack U20s at 10, so perhaps we will need to bide our time.
Kini Naholo looked pretty good too, stood out probably more , but not sure about him as yet.

@Canes4life wasn't at game, but also thought on pretty average tv coverage, didn't think Higgins set the game alight either. Lakai looked bloody good I thought.

Defence was a bigger worry for MP. It was a joke at times

Naholo will start on one wing. But unsure about the other one. Higgins maybe an option here

I wish Godfrey had started instead of Morgan. As its a big ask to start him when he's hardly ever played there at this level

@Winger Moorby will start on the right, Love at FB. Barrett and Proctor in the midfield. ?? at halfback with Cameron likely to start at 10. Vijoen, Godfrey and Higgins to come off the bench if Roigard is out and Perenara doesn’t make the trip.

Like that kid Vijoen, thought he went well for Manawatu last year. Can't quite make up my mind who will or won't start next week .I would think Naholo would be close and is he does Moorby to bensh? Think Cameron could be in squad too?

@Dan54 Moorby is the opposite wing than Naholo. They both should start.

@Canes4life Ok mate wasn't thinking, you think Rayasi will miss out? As I said only saw it on tv, and that doesn't really me whole picture who went well.
Just out of interest, where is that training set up for Canes. Lived in Trentham many years back and was trying to work out where it is.

@Dan54 Rayasi should miss out because he was very average last year and Moorby/Naholo were sound. Moorby was really good last week, Naholo was good this week so I expect them both to be selected.

It's south of Hutt International Boys School where I actually went to college. Great facility. It's done wonders for the Phoenix football side so hopefully it gives the Hurricanes the upper hand this year.

@Canes4life Yep and Moorby is not a player that lets a team down is he? So you could be bang on.

@Duluth said in Preseason - Hurricanes v Moana Pasifika:

    Who's the commentator with Laban?

The graphic said JP Tocker, whoever that is.

Laban was saying that Fine was Ah Wong all game. He should have trusted his eyes, not the team list.

@Bovidae I always find it funny, I know I read in forums on odd occasion how people don't like Laban as a commentator, I really enjoy him. Mind you not too many annoy me anyway, but Laban is one who works for me.
