I wonder why I've heard about Jacko Gill for so many years, but never heard of Tom Walsh. And then Tom Walsh beats him at his own game at the olympics!!

A great effort by Walsh and Gill (given the circumstances of his buildup and injury).

TBH I'm a bit skeptical of that new OR. Always thought all of those 70s/80s records were rife with roided out Yanks and Soviets.

Huge congrats to Tom, did enough when it counted - some of those other finalists were a bit rubbish, with the number of fouls etc. If only Jacko Gill had pulled out another qualifying throw.

meant he was a wonder kid, age group champ, so got more exposure, whereas Walsh didn't seem to take that path.

Walsh has had plenty of exposure in NZ the past 18 months or so, Gill less so, because of Walsh.

Great effort by Tom Walsh - his pb is 21.58, so he would have needed to throw 20cm further than that to take the silver.

Crouser is only 23 so expect some good clashes in the years to come with the Kiwi boys and the young Pole. Obviously having that extra height is a huge advantage.

                                          I am really enjoying this!
Channel 7 in Oz always takes great delight after the first couple of days in showing Oz is 5th on the medal table and NZ is 31st.
So now they are 10th and we are 14th they no longer make the comparison.
And we've won more than half as many medals as them.

Now bring on the Bledisloe!!
