Right web nerds - maybe @Kirwan and @Duluth I need some help:
I've had a site for our rugby club on HostPapa for over 2 years now. It is mainly a point of presence and somewhere I can put important notes so I don't have to keep repeating myself to players.
I get an email from them to this effect:
Our automated performance scans have detected that your hosting account has exceeded the resources allocated more than 93 times in the past 2 days. Please see the list of recent faults generated by your 'Web Hosting Business (renegades.net.au)' account:
⁃ Limit on entry processes (EP): 93 timesWondering what this means?
These faults are usually caused by one of the following issues:
- An increase in your web traffic (meaning your website has outgrown your current plan)
- Malfunctioning scripts
- Malicious activity, malware infections, or hacking attacks
We've run the site with them for a bit over 2 years without incident, it should be noted. Perhaps there is an increase in traffic due to new people joining the club.
I raised a support ticket. The Account Manager came back with "hey let's spend a bunch of money to take care of it" while stating
Our System Administrators found excessive resource usage faults. This happens whenever the activity generated by traffic, plugins, scripts, themes, etc. surpasses the resource usage limit of your hosting plan.
And that's fine but are they caused just by volume of traffic or something else? How would I determine this?
(The options they presented was a service amounting to $60/month or moving to a VPS at anything up to $860 a year, requiring me to spend money the club doesn't have).
Help appreciated. They said they're going to re-scan on May 1st and will put the site on hold if it is problematic.

No idea sorry
I would expect the host to be able to give you better information. But it's not really in their interest if they are trying to up sell
The site here is unusual.. the non forum stuff is a static website written in vue (with some live fetches) and hosted for free on netlify. So we only care about bandwidth and we're miles away from hitting maxing out the free tier
-
Yeah, I would list your recent changes and back them out one at a time, checking in with the host after each.
My first impression was they are trying to milk you, so may be worth looking at other options. Digital Ocean have been great for us, very predictable costs and plenty of flexibility to build what you want as it’s your server.
Duluth has had lots of fun building on it.

Yeah that's what the forum and a very small CMS are on
For a small team website that only updates once or twice a week I would look at a static site though. Use an astro js template, host on netlify (or similar) for free

Ok fellas, got a question not tech that leads to another.
1 As I planning trip overseas later in year, I have set up a Wise debit card, seems good, has anyone heard bad things about them>
2 I can have a digital card etc, but if I want it in google wallet I have to set screen lock, is there anyway I can have a lock (pin ) just for Google wallet. I don't want to lock screen on phone all the time as I find it a complete pain in the arse!! -

They gave me logs - most of the traffic is bots so I'll go troubleshoot that over the weekend - from memory update .htaccess or something. Fuck it's been a while
Chuck the logs in to Claude AI, AI is great at scanning logs. Tell it the general thing you are looking for.
4000 chunks, tell it there are more to come and you can get through a bit

Sorry man, no clue - haven’t used the card, just account transfers with them

Hey Apple nerds like @Kirwan and @Duluth :
The boy's M1 Pro Macbook with 10CPU and 16GPU cores (16GB RAM) died and insurer is going to send a gift card for replacement value at purchase with JB Hifi
The only options really look like the M3 Pro as M2 only comes in Max.
If the M3 Pro at the same price is only 8 core CPU and 10 GPU is that equivalent or what?
-
Clock speed and cache size difference between designs?

Not super up to speed on that, but you should be able to find comparison speed tests (especially for video editing) between the versions.
A jump from M1 to M3 should be a significant increase, even with less cores. But someone will have done the math.
-
Cheers gents.
Looks like a significant jump in speed for pure GHz. What I found interesting was comparing the base M3 with the M1 pro
https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/apple-m3-vs-apple-m1-pro
Single core = M3 std wins
Multi core = M1 Pro winsI'm assuming the M3 pro goes even harder.
The issue is availability - JB Hifi don't list any M3 Pro with 1TB storage as available within 200km...
That kind of sucks as it means we might have to go to the Apple store. Yeesh...
