Hah I was just thinking last week I should probably get back on and be a bit more active. Maybe not.

After a passive aggressive phase about ten years ago where LinkedIn seemed mostly thinly veiled posts about bad bosses, it fast became FIGJAM central.

Still a few good people to read on there amongst the wider noise though.

It’s basically a snapshot CV, so it should be FIGJAM.

If you say your bang average, then it kind of goes against the point …

But I do agree with most of the above!

    “Inspirational garbage for the drooling”

Saving this quote for future use.

    Probably for my upcoming book.

Arguing semantics, but I reckon there's a happy niche that's somewhere well above bang average, but also below the FIGJAM of some of the newsfeed.

I'm likely in full Grumpy Old Man mode at the moment, given the state of recent LinkedIn notifications...

@Donsteppa oh right because only males could be superior enough to be acting in a hiring capacity.

Saw someone posting about how they had a half hour meeting with the team to start the week off and check in on how people were doing. Got lots of gushing approvals.

    FFS.

I don't disagree, but given our shared Fern addiction, i'm not in a place to do anything but admire people who waste their life

"Marathons and the Fern - how an everyday guy manages to juggle both in this confusing new world"

Will keep an eye on linkedin for the release date 😆

I only ever use Linkedin to check on people - new hires, contract staff, new board members, staff at regulators etc. So the distain towards it in this thread has come as a surprise to me.

Yeah - I don't ever logon to LinkedIn... I felt obliged to create an account by ex-workmates. I might do a quick lookup of somebody if I'm involved in hiring someone, or when I get suspicious that a workmate is even more of a waste-of-shadow than others. I certainly don't ever read updates/posts/anything. But after this thread... I'm intrigued...
    And... "disdain".

it might depend on your industry, my area has some very active people/companies posting about innovations and new developments etc so i find it pretty handy too keep a high level idea of whats changing out there, mostly as @Nepia said though checking in on new hires or old colleagues

Wonder if @Kruse will comment. Am keeping my pedanticism (is that a word?) to myself.

@booboo Seems I'm too late. Except for the grammar/punctuation/structure - and where does one begin with that?
I usually manage to keep my pedanticism on the down-low on the Fern - but "distain" seems like one of those insidiously becoming wider and wider-spread.
I still cringe at "sauce/source" - although I know it's a running-Fern-joke... I wonder if there are others who do not, and we're just enabling the Post-Ironic-Idiocracy.

I used it a lot for that and it was really useful to see what colleagues and others in my speciality were doing and where the industry was heading - perhaps link with them and swap thoughts.

But then the recruiters started using it and people hyped up their CVs to ridiculous levels. The downhill slide became an avalanche when it became a marketing tool.
