Missed it. Pretty gutted. Was oblivious to it (inside)at time other people in town were seeing spectacular stuff from their back yards. So, Went for drive out into countryside to see if could see something, but just faint pink glow.
that's pretty much all anyone sees. It is only with photography tha tyou get the spectacular images. FOMO is real, but you didn't miss out I don't think

@dogmeat yeah I was surprised at the lack of 'warning' in SM, given whenever there is a meteor shower, eclipse or other similar event it is usually publicised, I didnt see anything, until after.
They can't predict solar storms, there was a warning that went out for electrical effects as soon as it was detected. Then the nerds who knew what it meant slowly spread the word until it hit public consciousness. I knew it was happening, as it started in NH night, but never expected it to make it to NLD!

That makes me feel a lot better.
Also feel better getting in to work on Monday morning and it appears almost the entire local population missed it. That wasn't the impression I was getting. -

What do you mean by predict? The BOM was pointing this out days ago and typically only the really fast CMEs arrive in less than a day:
-
We've escaped most of it, got 220 on Tuesday and sort if 60 a day since then
But the roads have been cut for a while now and the supermarkets are getting empty
-
It's been hammering down non stop for a couple of hours now. Really going.
Bruce highway washed out too. Joy
-
Current radar shows smashing Cairns
But not widespread like it been doing to TSV and surrounds ...
Just keep it out of the Daintree huh?
-
-
nice to see the breathless cyclone reporting being aimed at someone else for once.
-
@mariner4life I know midway through last week Alfred was tracking to hit NZ on several models, but I see it is basically doing a 90 deg turn to hit GC & Brisbane on Friday.
Could be a nasty one.
-
It's only a Cat 2, fuck all.
The biggest worry will be if it stalls and dumps rain in areas that just aren't equipped to handle the volume
-
@mariner4life lady at work was saying her son (in GC) has basically been told they are off thier worksite for a week and to be prepared to evacuate (unsure what part)
Although when I was in GC in August last year there was a much smaller amount of rain forecast and they were panicking....didnt turn into much.
