I'll tentatively say it's fixed

Permission changes have gotten rid of most of the bots. The guest page views are now <5% of what they were a couple of days ago. I turned other processes back on (like embedding) earlier today and we seem to be fine

There's still some steps we can take to make the place more resilient. However those can wait a couple of weeks when hopefully I have more spare time

It's harder for bots to see Off Topic threads now. Also if you are not logged in the Politics sub forum is invisible

So what were the bots looking at? Three threads mostly: Hot chicks, movie reviews & US politics

@Duluth so sex, mindless entertainment and politics....the internet stays true too form...disappointed off season signings for minor rugby teams isn't viewed as important as the US presidential race

At least one of those should be deleted IMO. Plenty of places to find dirty pics on the internet.

Looks like it. Traffic went up again about 1am.

Not as bad as before but it is slow

Took away even more viewing permissions from guests. Hopefully that helps

Had issues loading the site this morning and a little bit of slowness persists after e.g. when I hit the button to post, for 5ish seconds the toolbar will still show a draft pending then everything updates.

Also getting "lost connection" orange text pop-up a couple of times posting this

We had a couple of log files that were getting large. I killed them and restarted everything

Hopefully that improves things
