@Machpants At least the Irish Rugby team can get to the knockouts, but yeah the same consistent disappointment for their noisy supporters.

Scotland had plenty of hope. Misguided admittedly.

Spain beat Albania and top their group with a 100% record.

Italy scored a last-minute equaliser against Croatia so Croatia are out. Italy finish second in the group.

England are now in the last 16 whatever happens in their match tomorrow against Slovenia.

@sparky Looking at the way the draw pans out, England need a win to ensure they top the group as 2nd spot plays Germany then Spain which is not an easy road to the semi-finals - group winner gets the winner of Swiss v Italy if they get past their 3rd place finisher in the last 16 - that game may be the loser of Netherlands v Austria or Austria if it is a draw. I think.

@KiwiPie One side of the draw is already looked stacked and the other side easier. England can get on the easier side by beating Slovenia this evening.

Incredible ending to Italy / Croatia. Absolute heartbreak for Modric and team. Many of them were literally sobbing at the conclusion.

Two games decided in literally the last 30 seconds of a long overtime. Incredible drama.

Both of those teams have been all sorts of ordinary. I actually think Switzerland can beat Italy. If they don’t choke.

England look a bit lost again. Foden has been better. The English attack looks devoid of ideas. A Slovenia goal would make this very interesting

Southgate's managerial nous is summed up by swapping TAA for Gallagher. Move Foden to the middle of the park and play either Gordon or Palmer wide left. He's far too conservative.

Probably doesn't help that they left arguably their two most creative players in Maddison (albeit out of form) and Grealish at home

It's pretty stodgy so far. Possession football, a lack of aggression, with no cutting edge

FFS, just press. Stop dicking around.

It’s basically 3-1 possession with similar chances / shots.

Gallagher is such an ordinary player. Mainoo looked a bit better. Palmer too. This is the worst group. All teams poor.

Palmer has made a significant difference. But pretty poor performance for England against a less skilled team. The Slovenians celebrating like they won the game

Looks pretty unlikely they'll go any further than the next game

“Sometimes football matches are compared to games of chess,” notes Chris Fryer. “This is usually because they are tactically intricate and cerebral, not because only one piece moves at a time.”
