Bizarre scenes in Emma Twigg's women’s single sculls QF where the Spanish women overtook the Serbian for the third and last qualifying place in the last 500 m. The Serbian women basically did a lay-down Sally after being passed.

It was odd but I can sort of understand it. She was caught and knew she had no energy left to catchup so she gave up. Not a great advertisement for giving it your all and fighting to the end.

Pairs girls looked good. Quickest time too
But those fucking Romanians look strong. -

Looked extremely weird. I haven't done much rowing, I wondered if the oar got stuck in the water or he lost grip on it or something? Is that a thing?
Looked like he just gave up at the end there with the poor other guy trying to do it all on is his own

Personally I'm just happy that the nervous "when or will we even win our first gold medal" wait has been cut short by our woman's 7's team.
Gutsy effort from the captain Hirini too, playing with a mashed up face to set up the winning break from her own tryline.

I should investigate how I can be part of the team doing the shittest and least competitive sport so I too can use OLY as a postnominal like a bunch of 12-14 year olds that can't skateboard.

Jesus - it's carnage out on the wet roads in the Women's triathlon. About a dozen women have hit the deck so far, including one of the NZers.
I hope it dries a bit for the men,because the last thing you want when you've got one of the favourites is to be riding on a skating rink and introducing randomness!

The wonderful-named Cassandre Beaugrand, a Parisan, wins the Olympic Gold in the Triathlon. A hometown win.
I doubt there is going to be an image from these games to match her hitting the tape to win Gold on the Pont Alexandre III with the golden dome of Les Invalides in the background.
