I must also admit that the most nerve - wracking and harrowing spectaor sport ever is watching someone on the last hole of a golf course closing out for the gold medal.

Ko played it beautifully but my goodness it's all just one shank away from unravelling completely. Possibly I was just seeing myself out there completely louse it up.

Those players must have absolute nerves of steel.

I would ABSOLUTELY have put that chip into the drink. There is just zero doubt.

I may have hit it fat, taking a foot of dirt before the ball to loft it up and in there. Alternately, I may have thinned it, seeing it skim a couple of times before settling under the surface.

But there is simply no other possibility as to where that approach would have ended up.

Don't forget the number of chip and putt saves she had to make. You could see Lydia taking longer and longer to line up all those 3 foot putts as she got closer to the end. I can't putt for toffee so I could barely breathe watching it live 🫣

That may have been the most galling for them.

The AIS started before that, in 1981. Initial driver was a report commissioned by the Whitlam government in the early 70s, when Olympic results were OK.

But the process got a boost after the Montreal games when no gold was won. It took about a decade to get back to Top 10 ranking for the Barcelona games.

Los Angeles will do a fine job. They have great sporting facilities and venues.

The only problem that I can see by shifting it forward two weeks there are going to be clashes in the sporting calendar.

As things stand it's going to be back-to-back with the Copa America and the Euros in July 2028 and will clash with Wimbledon and the Open.

I could see The Open shifting to early August in 2028. Wimbledon might need to have the men's and women's finals both on the same Saturday and the doubles finals a bit earlier or something.

That’s why she’s an Olympic Gold medalist and you’re talking shit about Golf with other losers decent blokes on the interweb.

I’m not going to comment having played Golf about twice in my entire life. But yeah, good stuff Lydia, I’m on the bandwagon !

@sparky New Zealand has a good history in LA and also our Rubgy 7s teams both Men and Women regularly play there as part of the Rugby 7s Circuit.

M4L has hit on a point for me that has reoccurred throughout the games: nobody remembers the medal counts, but they remember the moments.

To take an example, Australia won 17 golds in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, but Jai Taurima our long jumper who won silver while smoking between jumps* would be a top 3 memory in people's minds.

So the things I will remember, in no order:

                          Raygun the breakdancer
Fox sisters in the drink after the Slalom cross racing
                          Cam McEvoy 50m freestyle win
                          Surfing big barrels in Tahiti
                          Dupont winning 7s gold
Curry, Lebron and KD winning it one last time
Evenopoel posing after winning Men's Road Race by 500m

*I don't think he did smoke between jumps but the urban legend has incorporated that in the decades since. In another 5-10 years he will have a cig out the side of his mouth mid-jump.

Except for 84 of course. That is part of the school PE curriculum in NZ

Love the Olympics because of those moments. There were far too many NZ (and other) moments where I’d swear the air conditioner was leaking from the roof. Koh, Lisa Carrington and Hoskin, Finn Butcher, the 7s (NZ, Canada and US), Andrews in the Kierin, the Aussie 1500m runner Hull (mainly because of the call by Whately and Tamsin Lewis riding the emotion), chef Curry winning his first gold.

Thank you Stan. The best coverage of the games ever. A mix of full length and packaged up highlights that made it an enjoyable watch and gave the viewer real choice.

Actually contemplating going to LA for 2028.

                              Really, really entertaining viewing.

Thanks to the Olympics I’m now an expert in Trampolining, cycling, break dancing, skateboarding, high jump, shot put, table tennis and various other track and field events ( I tend to zone out a bit for the swimming )

Paris absolutely nailed it, they should have it there every four years. What a location.

Interesting to note given all the medals per capita fapping that we had the 14th biggest team

So on that yardstick we finished slightly ahead of expectations.

Can someone fill me in as to why this guy became such a phenomenon? I’ve been sent memes which I don’t really understand but have laughed politely all the same.

Interesting to note given all the medals per capita fapping that we had the 14th biggest team

So on that yardstick we finished slightly ahead of expectations.

Wow. That is quite amazing, actually.

Some of that must be due to the easy Oceania path for the 2 football teams. Plus a general focus on team sports (hockey, rugby7, even rowing crews).

But in other recent games we've even had both basketball teams qualified. I wonder if we've had even bigger teams, in 2016?

I don't remember Paris having the Big Pineapple.

They will never be able to replicate Paris. Brisbane will give their Olympics their own flavour

Rum. That flavour is Bundaberg Rum
