ok, thats doable, our guys have to have played 4 of the last 7 games or more than half the season and you only qualify for the highest grade you played that week (to avoid dropping 1st grade players)
so the second half of the season we have to keep an eye on when we play guys up a level to make sure we dont disqualify them from lower grades
@Kiwiwomble oh yeah we have players graded as well in terms of majority of last 7 games.
Start 2s, Bench 1s = 2nd Grade
Bench both = 1st Grade
Start both = 1st Gradeetc. Can make a case to get dispensation if they played half a season in the lower grade and so on.
If you have consecutive grades in the finals you get what is called "Open Selection" which means you can pick whoever you want wherever you want.
I honestly think they should up it from 2 rounds to 4 rounds minimum to stop the tyre kickers.

Next year it will get easier in a couple of areas once we enforce payment up front.

Let's get rid of the tire kickers for a start.
@NTA yeah, we did that this year and has been easier, first game was painful as i mentioned earlier in the thread, guys doing it on their phone 10min before kickoff
but since then hasnt been too bad
all our our coaches also sponsor at least one players (if they can), i picked up one of our colts who has ended up playing 1s

And the two guys who absolutely carved up were 18yo kids of Cook Islander heritage who grew up on league all their lives. Shows where our development systems are at. One of them propped against blokes twice his age and held his own, then absolutely dicked everyone in open play.
I reckon I could take half a dozen of these league kids, weld a small, fit forward pack onto them from a couple of local schools, and win almost every U21 comp in our competition.

3s and 2s lost....but had earned the right to have a second chance so will play a prelim this week
1s got up though so we get a week off and though to the Grand Final!

our opposition on the weekend received a RED for this huge high shot, our halfback had to come off and i ended up taking him to the hospital, couldnt remember pretty much anything from the day and the whole drive back was just repeating the same quesitons, was that the semi? did we win? who hit me? did he get a card? am i concussed?....then immediately start again, was scary. hes obviously done for the season including the grand final but possibly rugby in general....theyre guy has got off...so he's free to play and max may never play again

@antipodean we dont get to see the report because we didn't cite him, straight to the judiciary because it was red, the only thing we've heard is they have deemed there was no head contact....which there clearly was, the cynic in me says its because theyre current champs and a big club and RV dont have the balls to ban someone in finals

Lost both preliminary finals today so that's 2024 done.
Conflicted as I now have my Saturdays back, but we aren't going to rein anything this year
Still, we got both grades into the finals so that's a step forward
Wife is happy
Right up until she finds out I'm going camping next weekend lol

good work mate, think i know how you feel....kind of looking forward to the end, including pre season weve been going since Jan....but also will be very quiet on Sat
our 1s had the week off but 4s, 3s 2s and women all have prelims/semi.....2s the only ones who lost so 4 teams playing grand final day this Sat....huge day for the club and without 2's playing we should have a completely fresh bench which is not nothing
mrs womble has only just clicked will be away most of sat and sunday...have to remind her im old so will be home by midnight....and then mid afternoon on sunday

I really wanted it this year, but I don't know if getting there and losing would be worse than not getting there at all
Considering that last year we scraped into 6th spot for First Grade (finals were top 6) while 2nds missed out altogether (7th), finishing third and fourth and then going through to Preliminary finals is progress. Effectively 3rd in both Grades at this point.
The vibe around the club is good. The prospect of Colts U21 is also stronger for next year. I've had encouraging conversations with the local juniors and want to get into schools to help with that as well - fuck knows NSW Rugby are useless for that.
Players say they want to come back, but of course February is a long way off.
Financially we're still scraping by (one sponsor never paid and we're waiting on another who wants to meet about an MOU but won't return calls right now) but I'd rather have $5k in the bank to buy equipment next year; financials is definitely something we need to work on.
I just never know which way it is going to turn, and need to work on switching off my rugby brain
