First NZ woman to win any GS title. I didn't even know who she was until she played and beat Leyla Fernandez in an earlier round

Carlos is still very tactically naive. Sinner seems to have the game to push him, for now.

He had an amazing GS record though. Comes through most of the time when it matters most

Sinner may not be hungry enough. Has game to play like the Joker. Would be great if it develops into a rivalry at the top.

BBC yesterday: Murray hoping for no long matches.

                  Nek minnit …

Feel a bit for him. Britain’s best and a superb player. But played in the Fed / Nadal / Djok era.

No. In non-GS tournament play there is no third set in doubles, they play a super tie breaker first to 10 wins

                            Anyone watching the US Open?
Djokovic down two sets to one and currently down 5-2 in the fourth set against Australian Alexi Popyrin

Some big upsets already, and some great matches. Alcaraz went out to some Dutch guy three straight the other day. The draw is opening up big time

Djokovic out in third round. Popyrin prevails 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4

2002 the last year none of the 'big three' (Nadal, Djokovic, Federer) won a grand slam.

Fourth seed Alexander Zverev has lost the first set in his third round match currently in progress.

Just gone midnight in New York and Women's second seed Aryna Sabalenka has just started her third round match.

I wonder if the extra load of the Olympics is a factor? Both Djokovic and Alcaraz just seemed flat, with due respect to their opponents who both played well

                                    You have to think so.
2024 is also the first year since 2017 that Djokovic hasn't won a major.

Sabalenka wins, but a very swingy second set - she won three straight games to be 0-3 up, then dropped 5 straight games to be trailing 5-3 only to win 4 on the bounce to close out the title in straight sets. I wonder how often you win 5 straight games but still go down in straight sets?

Good on her, after a pretty trying year. Pegula fought hard, but she strikes me as being a bit of a Wosniacki type player; super solid and consistent which accounts for the vast majority of players on tour, but lacking the killer shot to take her to the next level. She had a good tourney and should take a lot of positives away. Despite losing the final she pushed Sabalenka close and served for the second set
