Ok people, probably not tech in your opinions, but myself and wife are heading Europe and UK for 6 weeks in Sept, just trying to work out ideas for phones while we away. I know some say roaming, but carrier (Skinny)doesn't do roaming in UK or a lot of Europe. I just think it probably fairly important to be able to be contacted etc in case, and maybe we would want to post a few things on facebook etc. So any and all suggestions would be appreciated, and as I not tech savvy if it simple would be great.
I've never used them but a mate of mine uses travel sims with data from this company, not sure if they have a NZ branch but might do as web company: https://simsdirect.com.au/collections/esim-united-kingdom/products/ultd-eu-uk-es
I have no idea if they're the best/cheapest etc so you might need to do some googling.
esims are easy and should be used more, I use them about 4-5 times a year, Airalo, Holafly, all good. Just google esim and do comparisons for destination.
Tip: depending on how long layover and multi-hop, consider the regional, global esim option, then you dont even need to do other activations at every stop

Hey fuckers - going to be in NZ for a long weekend and looking at phone plans. Suppose I'll go with whoever has the best coverage. Used Spark last time.
Anyone used an eSIM plan? Is it just easier to grab a physical SIM when I land?
Other suggestions helpful

What NTA said, but we're planning on 3 weeks in Nov/Dec.

(Note I have done the physical sim thing before and it was good with Spark)
I worked for Spark ( or Telecom as it was then )for ten years, use them.
I know you’re Australian but you could be like every Pom who ever roamed here and whinge about the coverage, completely forgetting New Zealand is a very hilly country.
Also, call me for a beer ( if your phone works, if not messenger might be easier )

Who are you with in Oz? I’m with Vodafone and it’s $5 per day Haven’t thought about a roaming opting in 5 years

Yes, chargenet but there are heaps of chargers at BP, Z stations etc and they aren't on their network.
I've got a Polestar (no that isn't a stripper) and just tell Google find a charger for me because it is basically a google car. There is also Plugshare, which seems to have most of them. If you are doing longer trips there is ABRP (a better route planner) that will schedule stops and give you a route to take, but I haven't actually used it).

@NTA Polestar 2 - Dec 2022 model, whatever that is. I really like it, still getting 400km out of it, goes like stink. Quiet, comfortable, AWD. Was concerned about build quality then I read one review that said - forget every preconception you have about it being assembled in China, it's a Euro car. That seems to be true. I wanted something similar to my RS4 in terms of build, performance, comfort, and I got it. Obviously never going to handle like the Audi and you lose the whole driving experience of 6 speed manual with 3 pedals, compared to effectively one, but in traffic that is a real plus. It surprisingly only weighs 230kg more, just swapped out a V8 for a battery.
