    @Higgins said in Canterbury v Hawke's Bay:

The "resting" isssue is confusing. Players like Mark Abbott, Ricky Riccitelli, Geoffrey Cridge and, to a lesser extent given the physicalness comparison of position, Ihaia West all appear to have had a heavy workload and will be fronting up once again. Hugh Renton remains a mystery, is he injured (yet again) or is playing in the first two matches deemed worthy of three game rest period?

I remember reading somewhere that Renton wasn't named for the Auckland game because of a shoulder injury. I assume he hasn't recovered from that injury yet.

What I also find a bit of a worry is that Sam McNicol has still not recovered from his concussion. His last game was on 30 July, so that's 6 weeks. Not sure what the average recovery time is for concussion, but it must have been a pretty serious head knock?

THere seems to be an increasing number of these longer term concussion recovery periods these days. This has to be a far better safety issue for the players wellbeing when compared against the previous three week stand down periods before resuming.
I am quite looking forward to keeping a close eye on Matt Garland as I thought he looked ok in the little bit I saw of him (without giving him that much attention or really knowing why) against Auckland. Sometimes you get a good gut feeling about players hence the reason for me to keep a good watch on him tomorrow to see if my initial optimism is justified.

The more I think about, the shittier the "resting" argument is. I just looked up the stats and TBW has only played 132 minutes in 2 games. Compare that to Mark Abbott, who has played 308 minutes, Cridge 292 minutes or Fa'alemiga Selesele 310 minutes in 4 games.

I guess Abbott will either be going home on Monday or be named on the bench for the Southland game, but why they didn't take TBW to Chch? Maybe injured?

If players are deemed in need of a rest they should not be placed on the bench. We all saw the situation involving Dane Coles who was only called onto the bench against the Wallabies at the last minute yet was required to play virtually a full game. That could conceivably happpen in every game and if it does then it completely negates the "resting" reason. I am OK with the resting of Selesele as he does not appear to add that much to the team, certainly nothing approaching what you should expect from a hired gun from outside the province. The fond memories of Peter Winterbottom spring to mind here. You could also add recent crowd favourites likeThomas the Tank and Khan Fotouali'i here as well I suppose.

I think we have got 'en worried, they are going for the three points instead of backing their ability to break our feeble defence that is already showing itself!
Hakwes Bay 00 - 03 Canterbury but sadly thats after just two minutes

And to further emphasise the porous defence a converted try comes less than two minutes later Hawkes Bay 00 - 10 Canterbury. At this rate the century is in danger of being reached midway through the second half if things do not improve from the Bay tacklers.

Hwakes Bay win something, yes it's only a penalty but they are seriously considering doing a lap of honour!

Guys, we should have a whip around to see if we can raise enough funds to put up a keg as an incentive to win a lineout after losing the first three of our own throws.

At least we have managed to avoid losing another lineout thanks to what must have been a Geoffrey Cridge fart putting Domiinic Bird off who fumbles his uncontested attempts to win his throw.

Sadly it leads to no real relief as another Mo'ounga pentaly inflates the score to Hawkes Bay 00 - 13 Canterbury

Guys, pinch yourselves, the Bay has scored a try, albeit from what was a lucky bounce and a questionable final pass that looked what could not even be classified as a line ball. Ihaia West converts Hawkes Bay 07 - 13 Canterbury twenty five minutes gone

I think Falcon has missed more tackles in the first half than his dad would in an entire season

Getting pissed off with Wilson kicking the ball away all the time. Doesn't work under the new rules, especially with our shit tackling

'86 did you see what I thought I saw? It looked like Mr. Philpott wandering down to the changing rooms to what must presumably be to see if he can drag someone from the curtainraiser into sitting on the bench after Tony Lambourn was forced to leave the field injured.

Compounding matters is now Jonah Lowe is now in the bin and Mason Emerson looking to be carrying an injury.

I've been hiding behind the sofa too scared to watch most of the game so I missed it
