Getting Kohli last ball of the day is huge in the context of the match.

I've written before that regardless of conditions batting in the first innings I use 220/4 as a sort of benchmark par score. And since this is a bit like India's first innings - 231/3 is only a wicket behind where I'd have been pretty happy.

Concerning that we haven't been able to really apply any brake to their scoring - they've rollicked along at pretty much 5 an over, but maybe Kohli's dismissal will instil some caution. Otherwise, we've got 25 overs this morning, where I'd like us to pick up at least three wickets.

Scores even, but we've got them six down - we're just a wicket away from their tail.

Scores even and we haven't taken another wicket (i.e. they're still 3 down) and still five sessions of play, I'm going to be hugely concerned that we'll suffer the humiliation of losing this test - having to keep out their spinners for 2+ sessions on the final day.

That’s a relative term with Jadeja and Ashwin there

@MN5 Six down we're a wicket away from their tail - Kuldeep, Bumrah and Siraj.

Jadeja a good bat, but I can't see Ashwin hanging around long if O'Rourke can get a few up his nose... we just need to keep chipping away as we have done. There was a bit much loose bowling, but generally I actually thought the bowling was reasonable, and the captaincy good. Pitch is still pretty flat (certainly has good pace in it) and the boundaries are not huge.

@Chris-B definitely want to see us slow their scoring a bit, as long as we keep taking wickets....

I agree we just need to tighten up our bowling lines a bit

I have noticed over the last couple of years O'Rourke has mopey body language, even when things seem to be going well for him. Lucky he's not trying to be an AB.

@Crazy-Horse do we still only shine one side of the ball? Or should he be involved on both sides?

He can mope about all he wants if he keeps taking wickets at the rate he is.

Imagine him and Jamieson firing at the same time, two Black Caps with sub 20 bowling averages !?!?!? Sigh, how good would that be ?

Add Sears and we have three good young seamers. If they can all stay healthy together

Jury is still out on him but the signs are promising. Let’s not go all Cam Roigard just yet.

We still have a few good years out of Henry too.

Yeah for the good of NZ cricket I don’t really want to see him limp towards 400 test wickets. He needs to bow out.

Missing that runout was poor! Poor throw, poor positioning by Blundell, and Smithy is probably right about poor communication.
