Thank god the Black Cap selectors finally read TSF forums and dumped Ronchi. Hope that muppet never makes it back in.

I did not remember Ronchi's big knock and was going to query you on it. Then I did my own research which made my question unnecessary. OK? 🙂

Well, Guppy's out now and it seems no-one did anything to cause it, though God knows - Bones was probably sticking pins in a voodoo doll!

Disappointing to get out to the pacemen, who look very hittable, where the spinners look difficult.

Wouldn't surprise me if this isn't a particularly high scoring pitch - especially if our spinners bowl well and we have the faith to keep the pace off the ball.

Yeah, the first 10 overs look the easiest so good we made the most of them. If we can get 270+ and use the spinners early we could build some scoreboard pressure. Though the dew may nullify the spinners to an extent.

Dhoni just made an absolute mess of a straight forward runout by trying to be cleaver and flicking the ball through his legs. Hilarious.

Now Kane gets out caught Dhoni. Not quite as hilarious.

BJ was quietly accumulating but holes out on the boundary after deciding he needed to step up the rate

"Yadav to Taylor, 1 run, OUT, swung away down to fine leg. Has Dhoni made the run-out again? Has he created something? Taylor was labouring back for the second, and pays the price as Dhoni collects the ball in front of the stumps and then deflects the ball back onto the stumps, all in one swift motion. Didn't even need to look at the stumps as he under-armed it back. A fantastic piece of agility, but not something new. If he was standing close to the stumps, Taylor would have made it with relative ease. Dhawal's throw from fine leg wasn't great - slow on the bounce, but Dhoni created the pace by getting to the ball"

                    Giveth & taketh away.....

Well, 260 - given we got 80/0 off the first 10 and 180/7 off the next 40, you'd think that once the shine goes off the ball it's not easy out there.

We looked pretty tentative through the last 15 overs though - probably should have pushed Timmy up the order a couple of places to give the ball a thump and hope it was his day. I think Hesson and Co. were a bit lacking in confidence to do that given previous collapses.

To not put too fine a point on it we need to knock over their top order cheaply. They've still got more lower order hitting power than us, but if they get a bit behind the run rate hopefully wickets will keep falling and we'll sneak home.

                        @Chris-B.

Yeah I actually think their lower / middle order is as shit as ours. They've rested Raina & Jadaja ahead of the Englaand tour & thats left a massive hole, hence Dhoni moving himself up the order the other day when they were 45/2, they are simnilar to us in thaty they rely hugely on their top 3 + Dhoni.

I'd be inclined to attack all out at the start & try & get Pandey & Yadev under presure.

Was listening to the radio this morning and apparently the last time we had the opportunity to win a series of some sort in India (Never previously been done by Black Caps) Glen Turner was coach and his pre match gee up was "You can't beat them today" Hoping for a bit of fire to start up in the bellies of the Kiwis. They got pumped.

2-2 motherfuckers. That's a great effort, Guppy MOTM which is probably deserved given how tough it was to score, the way he took toll in the first 10 set the game up for us.

This quote sums it up well

This win has "New Zealand" written all over it. They are technically not as good as India in these conditions, but what they do well is read the conditions excellently and have the tactics spot on. They saw a dry pitch, picked three spinners, batted first despite the prospect of dew, and went hammer and tongs in the first 10 overs knowing the spinners would be very difficult to get away once the balls grow older. Their start was perhaps a bit better than even they would have expected, which is what would have left them disappointed with just 260 on board, but once they crossed 230 you knew this was going to be a tight chase

Very astute from Kane and Hess. Credit where it's due.

With the benefit of hindsight, Cricinfo makes somewhat amusing reading around overs 18-19 of India's chase - Kohli going well and it's done and dusted! Even though, actually, at a comparative stage NZ was about 20 runs ahead in the game.

Those first 10 overs were crucial - got our noses in front and in the run chase we were never headed (other than over no. 1). Pretty good effort really, though an even better effort would have added another 30 runs off the final 15 overs.
