Well if we're going to throw money onto the roulette wheel, I'm doubling down on ATM...

Steven Moore was at kids training last night. He's a BMW rep and they had 4 (beautiful) cars there hoping perhaps to flog some of them off to the more well-heeled parents.

He seemed like a really good bloke. Stayed for ages and gave dozens of selfies, autographs etc., raffled some rugby balls. Embarrassingly my youngest said he just wanted to look at the cars (fark I hope Moore didn't hear that) and my eldest only gives a shit about skateboarding.

Anyway, I take my hat off to him. Obviously the Reds' appalling season gave him plenty of time for the visit, but he seemed to be a genuinely good bloke who enjoyed being there. While my own spawn didn't appreciate it, many certainly did.

        Respect Mr Moore.

@Rancid-Schnitzel Sounds like he should retire and become a cars salesman then.

@NTA great stuff by Beale, and i really like that jersey (as much as i can like any Wallaby jersey). Should be worn all year.

(on a much lower note, glad to see Beale smiling after the week he's had re: AFL house)

Surely he can do better than that? She's barely footy trip material.

This is the most official you can get:

Statement: PRO12 talks with South African Rugby Union
                      19 JUL 2017

Celtic Rugby can confirm that advanced & positive discussions are taking place with the South African Rugby Union regarding the introduction of 2 teams into an expanded Guinness PRO12 Championship.

Given the proximity of the 2017/18 season start, a final decision on this potential expansion will be confirmed as soon as practical.

                      And that's all.

That's a bit of a shunt. Despite our poor overall performance mid-year, Hunt was one of the highlights.

Agreed. He's been very good for the Reds. Probably wouldn't have started given Beale's coming back, Folau has the fullback spot and there's also Kerevi and Kuridrani, but I would have had him on the bench.

@antipodean I'm a bit wary of Beale's return. As we've seen many (many) times in the last decade, carving up in Europe isn't always a decent indicator of anything to do back here.

I would have had Beale on the bench, Hunt starting with Foley. More of a vanilla start, but X-factor coming in.

@antipodean I'm a bit wary of Beale's return. As we've seen many (many) times in the last decade, carving up in Europe isn't always a decent indicator of anything to do back here.

@NTA Yes, but what you'd do and what the World's Best Coach would do is another matter.

The old rugby gloves - Tony Brown using them, forever dispelling the myth that southern men were hard.

![alt text](An accident 22 years ago could have killed the career of rising rugby star Tony Brown, as SHARON LUNDY explains.

Tony Brown's rugby career might have been over long before he could catch a ball if it was not for his grandmother.

When he was just two, Brown, the Otago Highlanders first five-eighths and All Black squad member, cut his right hand on a pane of glass.

"They were going to cut my hand off in Balclutha Hospital but my nana wouldn't let them so she drove me through to Dunedin Hospital," Brown said.

Brown had cut the tendons of the first three fingers but doctors at Dunedin Hospital believed they could mend them. For the next five years, he had about one operation a year to straighten them and return their movement.

Tendons from his legs and feet were transplanted to his fingers and at one stage he had both legs and one arm in casts.

"I suppose, because I was so young, that I was a wee bit lucky and just adapted," he said. "I'm very thankful to nana for not letting them cut it off."

The fingers remain bent at the first joint - earning him the nickname "the Claw" from some of his rugby mates.

"I get a bit of a dishing when I drop [the ball] - everyone goes 'ah, it's the Claw again.'
