Im not in England so Im not seeing what he's seeing. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. However I really feel like we should be calling bullshit.

        @taniwharugby oh semantics......

He'll say he meant that when he's back in NZ but when he's in the UK he means the quality of player. Great politician Blackadder for PM

Ahhh, that explains why Bath have signed Jack Wilson, Robbie Fruean and Paul Grant since he's been in charge.

And that was that. Nothing to see here. Knee jerk sorry.

The use of the word talent is open to interpretation isn't it?

well seems he is playing to his audience...

The reasons why are slightly mysterious until one listens to Blackadder’s rationale: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team give so much effort in every game. Yes, we’ve lost twice but we’ve absolutely put everything into it. That’s probably the thing I’m most proud of.”

All those that played with and under him at the Crusaders should be ashamed....especially that year of the earthquakes, they shoulda put in more effort!

What a joke, Blackadder wouldn't recognise talent if it punched him in the face.

His recruitment record at the crusaders is testament to that.

That is utterly outrageous from TVNZ. They deliberately quoted him out of context to give the impression he was making almost the opposite point to the one h e was making.

That's a level below normal clickbait. Shameful stuff.

Yeah but look it already got it's own thread on here, the pig island circle jerk are all over it.

How to clickbait the north island:

                      Quote from the Guardian:
“I thought I’d be coming into a broken team but it hasn’t felt like that,” he says. “You’ve got so much talent in this country, more so than we have in New Zealand. I’m not saying they’re better players but there’s such a huge talent pool. These guys would play Super Rugby no problem at all.”

How our National Broadcaster reported that quote:
"You've got so much talent in this country, more so than we have in New Zealand" Blackadder told the Guardian.

Until the dilution of the competition last year this is not true. These guys wouldn't be playing for NZ franchises by and large, which given the nature of his comments (comparing NZ talent to UK talent) is something he is intimating.

"No problem at all?" I'll believe it when I see a northerner come down and dominate.

Meh, If Piers Francis and Jamie Hagan can get games in Super Rugby, I'd say it's not an unobtainable standard.

Obviously the talent is spread thinner in the AP with 12 teams and Super Rugby is still the pinnacle of non test rugby (well the Kiwi teams anyway)

Besides, as mentioned, he was deliberately mis-quoted as click bait in the article in the OP.

@Canerbry yep that circle jerk, almost as bad as your blind defence of anything Cantabrian, no?

The headline and actual quote might be clickbait, but he has still said some things in there which are aimed at his current employers and are stretching the truth somewhat.

@rotated A bit of a moot point until the super sides start offering wages that are comparable to the NH. If an NH player wants to play Super rugby then he does that as a point of career development and there are not many that would sacrifice the £££ or euros to do that.. Not suggesting that SH sides offering loads of dosh would be a good thing, just that there is more than one reason why NH players doe not make that transition.

@Catogrande I suspect there would be some average players form the NH that would shine down here, similarly there are average players from here that shine up there, but as the traffic is pretty much one way, the general perception is that the players that come from the SH are superior (being true doesnt help my argument, but anywhoo 😉 )

                                  Just the way it is.

@taniwharugby While I wouldn't argue with your points, that was not the argument I was putting forward - more that, disregarding any skill levels, there is one overwhelming reason why fewer players from the North go South and that is money. That of course is also the main reason players from the South go North

I guess, but until they do all the evidence points to the SR tournament being superior (at least at the pointy end) especially when guys like Gopperth, Waldrom, George Smith Sr and Nick Evans dominate the premiership.

I guess, but until they do all the evidence points to the SR tournament being superior (at least at the pointy end) especially when guys like Gopperth, Waldrom, George Smith Sr and Nick Evans dominate the premiership.

@rotated the other argument could be they are given a better chance to mature in the NH comps given the £££s or Euros (dunno how to do the Euro symbol) invested in them, whereas in NZ it seems a bit more ruthless with the 'next big thing' waiting to come in.

@taniwharugby While I wouldn't argue with your points, that was not the argument I was putting forward - more that, disregarding any skill levels, there is one overwhelming reason why fewer players from the North go South and that is money. That of course is also the main reason players from the South go North

Biggest reason is we protect our competitions, so there are very few spaces available and the player coming in has to be filling a shortage and be better than local alternatives.

So more likely to get established Test players anyway.
