    So I've had a bung knee for about 4 months now that isn't showing any signs of quick recovery. As a consequence of this running, cycling, rowing and even the crosstrainer have been causing significant pain and I'm starting to get fat. My gym has a heavy bag and some old gloves so I've just started giving that a go as some sort of cardio workout and I absolutely love it.

    Anyone got some tips on hiw to get the most out of this? I figure I might look like a bit of an idiot having had no experience on it. Have done some youtube searches and have been trying to incorporate footwork and making sure my arms stay up. One small issue today is that I hit with my left hand at a bad angle and sprained it a little, would purchasing some semi decent gloves help with that or is it more technique that I should be concentrating on?

      Wraps help a lot in stablising your wrists - at least in my experience...once you learn to put them on right at least! I'd be inclined to let that sprain come right before you start raining thunder down on the bag again ✊

      I'd look at 30sec intervals or something similar - jabs, hooks, and some combos. You can alternate between speed rounds and power rounds. Only think I'd raise is that a lot of power comes through your legs so it might still tweak your knee?

      In the meantime I'd consider dropping how much kai you are eating to help keep the weight off.

        ^ This. Don't punch bags without wraps. Get new gloves. Don't hit a heavy bag hard until you learn to align your wrist with your forearm. Concentrate on hitting with your knuckles of your pointer and middle finger, transmitting the force through the radius bone in your forearm.

        Don't hit the bags again until the wrist sprain is gone.

        I found the hardest workout when I started was speedball. It's torture on your shoulders keeping your arms elevated.

          cheers, a friend of mine has pointed me to her preferred wraps and gloves and they aren't crazilly priced. There is a boxing instructor at the gym so it might pay to get a session to learn technique, would hate to end up with another buggered limb. Haven't been using my knees alot in the punching but at the moment I'm more interested in the cardio aspect of it rather than power.

            def get some training and wraps shouldn't be overly expensive.. gloves on the other hand (boom tish!).

            So much of clean hitting is technique - plus at Antipodean pointed out you can do yourself some damage if your punching isn't on point.

            Hope the knee sorts itself out soon mate! hang about and keep us posted on progress 👍

                well I'm off it for a few days, both wrists in pain and managed to somehow take skin off a knuckle through a glove. Will have to get some decent gear on the weekend. Can you try posting those videos again @dK or giving me the guys name. The links didnt work
