@Nepia not even close? Nonu's last few years were unreal. Run threat, pass threat, a kicking game, and defensively hard. I reckon it's a valid discussion (after Horan was undisputed for years)

I think that Horan was a stand out and mostly mistake free over a long career - Nonu an easy second (this is of course of players I've actually seen play, old timers might punt for Bert Cooke). As a NZer I'd pick him for the Nepia XV over the dirty Aussie Horan ... but Horan is the better player for me.

Fuck knows how the Chiefs came out of that with a bonus point win but I'll take it. What a shit performance.

19 points from the first four weeks heading into the bye is pretty fucking good but they really need to step it up a couple of notches.

I'd say from 08-15 Nonu was excellent and easily on a par with Horan. Probably earned about the same amount (or more) caps as Horan then too...

If your criteria is continued excellence for over a decade then Horans your man. But if we rate the players at the peak of their powers then I say Nonu easily.

I must have seen Horan play live close to 50 times. I thought he was the GOAT by far. But I saw Nonu in 2015 and I was in farking awe. He did all the stuff Horan could do inside the body of the goddam Predator. I'd take him over Horan any day.

Nah. It's early days in the comp yet. Can't be expected to go all out on focus all the time.
They have been very lucky to get 19 points from the 4 games but in this comp you need to run with that kind of luck. Have a little breather now then give things another burst.
It's a cruel comp. The Blues would have kicked them tonight but instead they are in the terrible position (again) of not having much to show for their efforts and having to continue to push hard.

Some of you ask how the Chiefs won that, well the Rebels played some pretty dumb rugby in that last 5-7 minutes....almost Blues-like 🙂

It's seemed inevitable that the Chiefs would show their class and pull it out in the end.

Got up first thing this morning to watch this expecting to see some open running rugby from us and a huge score line. In hindsight should have expected a shit game - the Rebels to look like a desperate team after their effort against the Canes and talk of their team being axed, and the Chiefs looked like they expected to roll them.

A positive though, didn't think my man crush on BBBR and Cane could get any bigger, they were immense.

Cooke is def a player that would not be able to play in another generation...he was a 62kg mid fielder....

Yeah, you could never say Retallick is underrated. However, he is one of those players who is so consistently awesome that it's almost surprising. IMO, Whitelock is the one who is underrated, at least internationally.

I saw some glimpses of DMac and Shaun Stevenson in the opening minutes to make me feel a little better about next year. We'll be one of those teams with paper thin depth though.

I wouldn't say the Chiefs are lucky with their results because at least (IMO) they've looked the better team in every game they've played. The Crusaders are the ones who've been lucky because it seems to take them 60 minutes to realise their forwards are the best in the comp, and play accordingly.

That was a bloody good Rebels display. Just ran out of gas at the end. McKenzie is definitely 10 >> 15. I quite like the look of Mitchell brown. Tkb is in great form at present.

@JayCee Sanders impressed as well. Perhaps a chance to make the ABs in the not too distant future if he can continue to develop and is given some decent game time by the Chiefs.

@Rancid-Schnitzel Agree with the analysis. The conclusion depends on the question. For a one off Nonu has a strong case. Over a career less so. And don't forget Oz selectors made our life a hell of a lot easier for several years by selecting Tim for everywhere but 12. Bless them!

@Billy-Tell you think McKenzie is better at 10 than 15?

DMac plays as much at first receiver as he does at the back whatever number he has on his back. He and Cruden play swapsies all the time which allows them to have a crack at the line and not be worried about being on the ground if there is quick ball for the next phase. The Chiefs rarely play a standard set up except first phase from a set piece and even then they will often present two first receivers.

@Nepia not even close? Nonu's last few years were unreal. Run threat, pass threat, a kicking game, and defensively hard. I reckon it's a valid discussion (after Horan was undisputed for years)
