The NZ squad (minus IPL players) has been named. Basically a reward for domestic performance for Rance, Kuggeleijn, Bennett and Worker.

Tom Latham (captain) George Worker, Ross Taylor, Neil Broom, Henry Nicholls, Colin Munro, Jimmy Neesham, Luke Ronchi, Scott Kuggeleijn, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Neil Wagner, Hamish Bennett, Seth Rance, Jeetan Patel (will join the squad for the fourth ODI).

    Itinerary:

    May 14 v Ireland, Dublin

    May 17 v Bangladesh, Clontarf

    May 21 v Ireland, Dublin

    May 24 v Bangladesh, Clontarf

The mods can merge if there is a previous thread.

    My XI would be:

    Latham
    Worker
    Taylor
    Broom
    Munro
    Neesham
    Kuggeleijn
    Santner
    Sohdi/Rance
    Wagner
    Bennett

Think the selectors will include Ronchi as they wont want to burden Latham with the gloves as well as being a new captain.
Also coz Nicholls got a ton v SA in the tests, they'll slot him in at 5.

Old man walking wicket Luke Ronchi in again.

This team looks weak to put it mildly.

Because giving Latham more responsibilities worked out so well just a few months ago. WTF.

As no one else has posted it, the final NZ squad was announced a few days ago.

IN: Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan, Corey Anderson

Kane Williamson (c), Corey Anderson, Trent Boult, Neil Broom, Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne, Jimmy Neesham, Jeetan Patel, Luke Ronchi, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.

@Bovidae It's quite tricky to pick a balanced side from that.

Do you give Latham the gloves and hope his form lapse was just an aberration unrelated to keeping wicket - or do you have to play both him and Ronchi - or do you try to manufacture an opener (or push Kane up to open)?

Can you trust Anderson to bowl 10 overs, with a bit of help from Kane, or do you also have to play Neesham or CdGh ahead of probably Broom?

Just for the Champions Trophy, it wouldn't be entirely stupid to go with:

    Guptill
    Williamson
    Neesham
    Taylor
    Broom
    Anderson
    Ronchi
    Milne
    Patel/Santner
    Southee/McClenaghan
    Boult

Though I expect they'll open with Latham and leave out Ronchi - which might mean using Tom as a sacrifice opener, which I really don't like.

@Chris-B. Hesson said that only 2 of Neesham, CdG and Anderson will play, and that Anderson isn't up to bowling 10 overs yet.

As you say, the batting lineup will depend on who the WK is.

    @Bovidae Yeah - that doesn't surprise me.

Typically, we're really short at least one really good specialist batsman and a wicketkeeper who can reliably score runs.

Heard an interesting interview on Radiosport with Ronchi over the last few days - maybe on Monday afternoon with Darcy Waldegrave - where he was basically saying his batting woes are largely due to mental weakness (he may actually have used that term). Says that when he's confident and positive he bats well, but he struggles to generate that positivity and constantly doubts himself. He wasn't quite Ben Fouhy-esque, but getting up there!
