I've only just watched both races - without knowing the results - and then read the thread. All of the ups and downs very apparent.

How an event can go from one of the dullest ever (was getting very predictable), to one of the most exciting in one day (two wins from starboard entry was about as good as it got previously to break the monotony).
        Then today:
First an actual pass, and then boats stalled in the doldrums, which somehow became exciting. WTF. Bizarre and stressful entertainment.

That fat lady sure loves the Americas cup - "I'm going to sing now. Nah fuck it, I'll wait a bit".

Huge mistake by LR in 8. Had they altered to safety first mode and just focussed on staying on foils they ought to have won that.

@pakman they'd been foiling no problems at all but saw the light patch in the last few seconds before they sailed into it.

TNZ were in a different situation they fell off because the gybe was the wrong manouevere. LR had no wind at all.

Man the TNZ grinders looked dead at the end.

TNZ seemed to take no chances once they saw LR becalmed.

But the gybe looked right in the heat of the moment.

Bit of a lottery if wind under 7 knots!

Going to be another one of those days by the looks. Only 7-11knots forecast but WSW so might offer the opportunity to race on course C off north head

Some interesting comments about LR deliberately going outside the course boundary in their attempt to get back on the foils. While you take a distance penalty it isn't a big deal when you are so far behind, and start foiling again. I wonder what the race committee would have done if TNZ had problems again on the final leg and LR had passed them?

honestly, it's the rules fault, not LR. I can see why they did what htey did - Ineos did the same thing.

A better answer is to rewrite the rules so if you spend too long outside the course you get black flagged

anyones thoughts on LR continuing in displacement mode through the gate and further upwind?

I know ETNZ had to head a bit upwind to get on the foils but everyone was saying there was less and less pressure upwind

I know its easy to say now but should they have tried to get back on their foils before heading for through the top gate

also saw some comments about once they had gone through the top gate why didn;t they just head down wind in displacement mode, slowly get further down course but also heading toward the pressure

very possible ive missed something important

maybe but also the best course for that breeze as it will funnel out of the harbour. Aso the premier course for spectators to be able to watch from the shore.

Means I can prob watch it from my office at work too but the kids sport pickup from devonport at 630 could be a pain in the ass with traffic!

More because it is orientated to the SW. Only other course would be "E" and why would they do that when we can have crowds in level 1? Only reason for "E" would be if there thought that they might get more breeze and it was marginal.

yeah, it was tongue in cheek, obviously the best course first, the last thing they would want is for races to have to be called off, just luck they best course is a great one for the home crowd to watch from

Murray said officials had been going over repeated penalties awarded against Luna Rossa on Monday for sailing well outside the course in a bid to find wind to get it foiling, after becoming almost becalmed.

“The penalties probably were on the generous side of not disqualifying (the Italians) for going out that distance,” he said.

The umpires would be letting the teams know for the next races, that “boundaries are boundaries”, he said.
