Came across my old KZ Kiwi pin and AC1987 scrapbook yesterday and now (probably stupidly) dare to be excited about the current regatta.

Have just been reading a bit about the past cups. What exactly happened in 1992 and was NZ in the wrong there? Seems pretty farked that they had to make changes 4 races into the final of the LV Cup. But I guess that's no surprise in this rather bizarre comp.

That was the bowsprit episode wasn't it? We were hot favourites and lost to il moro de venezia

Yep. Leading 3-1, then had a win annulled, then lost 4 in a row. The 2 wins before the change were by more than 2 minutes.

For some reason I just wasn't interested in this Cup. Maybe too crushed after Dennis the Bastard did the job on us in 87 and then that whole catamaran challenge bullshit.

Winning in 1995 was awesome. Coutts and Butterworth were a great team before they went all order 66 on us

You'd seriously consider joining Isis for the money they received.

It's a bit of a kick in the nuts that Kiwi ingenuity and knowhow have played a massive part in us not winning this thing back.

They both own sizeable chunks of waiheke island now if I'm not mistaken. If TMZ institute a country rule regarding crew and boat manufacture the nz industry will lose out, especially the warkworth traitors and all of the ex TMZ boys

To be fair, Team NZ did their moronic best to emulate One Australia in 2003 but thankfully didn't quite pull it off...

So now the desperation has gotten down to 'requesting' the judges to check everything meets the rule book. Looking for any chink they can legally use to declare the comp null and void. Obviously ETNZ have played the same card back at them in a counter move although I doubt much good can come of that.
If Larry loses this on the water he will go crying to the courtroom as he won't believe he got beaten under rules set up to ensure his own victory.

We won the first race, Oracle won the second. 4-1 to ETNZ.
I know this is irrational, but arrrrrrgggghhh.

Oracle seems to have closed the gap with their 5 days off.
Races were a lot tighter today.

Yeah, at this stage things look reasonably even as both teams can make errors which the other will win off.
If we get an even win/loss from here we take it out.
