Yep today is the day eh. Well it should be if there is enough wind. Only looks 8-12knots NW so assuming they will go out on course A rather then heading down the back paddock where it will be pretty sheltered. Course A could be 10-15knots this arvo if we are lucky.

In fact, it looks light winds right through the next week, particularly over the weekend. This apparently is where Luna Rosa will be at their strongest and with the match fitness from regular racing, this could be much much closer than many are expecting. It's really as simple as one mistake and you pretty much lose the race unless your boat is significantly faster (and I really hope we are)

I'm picking we win it 7-4 and would be too surprised if we are down 2 nil end of day today.

Good call fella, I can't wait though. Looking forward to it

@JK back paddock it is apparently.

"The racing will take place in Course Area E, to the east of the city where the breeze is expected to be 10-13knots at 16:00 from the N or NW. But then come some potentially big variations. An hour later the breeze could have increased to 16 knots before then dropping back slightly to 11-12knots.
“The weather models don’t align that well today which is not unusual for this wind direction, but it is an indication of the instability that could be in store,” said regatta director Iain Murray. “With the cloud development there could also possibly be some rain at times which may produce more wind on the front and less behind."

Sounds like it will be fickle. Wouldn't surprise me to see a course realignment at some stage. Looking forward to it though.

I will paraphrase my own quote from above:

"We don't have a clue, it might be windy, or not, rainy, or not, there could be some wind from some directions at times, other times not so much".

I hope that clarifies the expected conditions for everyone.

Yeah course E is a surprise. Really wouldn’t haven’t thought it was ideal but maybe it funnels through there.

                Can’t wait!

@jk It is E because we are at L2 and crowds (on land) are restricted to <100. Everywhere else gives the possibility of spectators on the shore. Tamaki Strait doesn't.

TNZ looked good in the pre-start and sailed a solid race. These conditions were more in Luna Rossa's sweet spot.

Bruni said that TNZ looks to be quicker upwind. The commentators think TNZ is faster in 12+ knots so let's hope for an increase in wind speed.

I can't remember who it was, but one of the pundits in the race preview on stuff reckoned our boat looked like a 3 generation model vs Luna Rossa's evolved 2G boat

I reckon they weren't really pushing it in the second half of the race. Looked to be cruising (relatively) - I suspect there is more speed tehre if they need it

Well TNZ lost the start, can we disprove the winning of the start is the winning of the race theory? If no team totally fucks up, I mean

TNZ looked good in the pre-start and sailed a solid race. These conditions were more in Luna Rossa's sweet spot.

                                        That has to be demoralizing

Bruni said that TNZ looks to be quicker upwind. The commentators think TNZ is faster in 12+ knots so let's hope for an increase in wind speed.

Bruni's comment was interesting because it's not really the way it played out, or what the comms said. We seemed to have the boat speed more downwind, and the last leg I think we let loose a bit and extended easily.
I'm just relieved that we do have a decent boat. There was a lot of hype about how fast we would be and it could have been very disappointing.

It does look like we might have 16kts for the next one, and yeah, that should favour us.

I reckon they weren't really pushing it in the second half of the race. Looked to be cruising (relatively) - I suspect there is more speed tehre if they need it

It looked that way for sure. Will be interesting if we do get behind to see what else they have in the bag.
