Sad fuck that I am I just wrote down all the beers I have tasted in the last three days in Colorado. Seriously, there are more breweries here than mountains. My list is at 34 already and I have 11 days to go.

Yep. The States is the land of opportunity for beer enthusiasts. I've been on the Untappd app for just over a year and have tried 257 unique beers... and I'm not even a big drinker.

At this rate you'll overtake me before the end of your trip... if you survive that long :)

For those who like a good IPA ( which has overtaken Pilsner as my favourite brew ) I suggest Rocky Knob Snapperhead IPA. They are a brewery in Tauranga so that's somewhere I'm definitely gonna have to visit next time I'm up that way. Bloody sensational drop, probably even better than Panheads which is saying something. Strong at 7.4% alcohol but that just adds to the flavour I reckon, I genuinely can't taste the extra alcohol content. $17.99 for a 1.25 litre plastic bottle at most New Worlds. Wonder if they're going to branch out to sixers at any stage ? I suppose the beauty of them being in bottles is it encourages drinkers to put them in glasses which definitely makes the beer taste better. ( Do I sound like a complete beer Willis when I say that ? )

Errr that is getting to be rather normal for craft.

I went to the newly opened Madam Woo Restaurant in Hamilton. $10 for a tap beer! (Hallertau I think it is, which is a brewery somewhere in NZ)

If you are passing through Hamilton and looking for somewhere nice to eat, skip this joint. Avvvverage!!

I've had quite a few that are worth that. Also had plenty trying on the $9-$10 a 500ml price that, while OK, certainly aren't worth that kind of $.

Then again you have the likes of a decent Garage Project IPA in a can at $4-$4.50 which I find is a good price. Panhead have gone to cans as well for their main lines as they packing advantages mean they can keep the price down to $40 a doz.

If you are looking for some half frozen malt beverage to knock back quickly then by all means go cheap.

Craft beer in an offie is usually in the range of $6-10 for 500 mls.

I find bar prices in Akl are around $11-12/400 mls.

1.6 litre of Emersons = $39.

My brother was over for a fortnight in Jan and a few quiets each night was consistently costing $200.

$6 a beers is $144 a carton. You don't have to "go cheap" to find $144 a carton fucking outrageous.

well I had a 750ml bottle of my 2nd batch of home brew on Saturday, it was pretty damn good, both neighbours were impressed too...cost me $29.95 for the ingredients, and I have 6 750ml bottles left and about 16 500ml.

One of the Liquorlands here had a superb range of Craft beers and they vary wildly from $5 a bottle upto about $15 for a 500ml usually, but they have 3 on tap that change fortnightly. Given it usually takes me 3 days to get through 6 bottles I usually only grab a couple at a time anyway.

That's crazy.

I usually have no problem with mark ups in bars, after all they have to pay a lot of overheads, but you wouldn't catch me paying that.

It is certainly a drawback with craft beer that if standard markups are applied without recognising the cheaper element of keg v bottle/can then it is priced way too high.
