      Winners are grinners!

With one more tournament to go (Paris), we're still in it, but grabbing the Series win won't be easy.

@stargazer what's the points for different placings?

        In the women's series:

Cup Winner & Gold Medallist 20
Cup Finalist & Silver Medallist 18
        Bronze Medal Match Winner 16
        Bronze Medal Match Finalist 14
        5th Place Match Winner 12
        5th Place Match Finalist 10
5th Place Match Semi Finalist 8
5th Place Match Semi Finalist 8
        Challenge Trophy Winner 4
        Challenge Trophy Finalist 3
        Challenge Trophy Semi-Finalist 2
        Challenge Trophy Semi-Finalist 1

        And the tie-break rules:

        (b) Criteria of resolution
        (i) In the event of two or more Teams being equal on points for any position on the
Series table, the Team which has the highest margin or points scored for and points
        scored against in all the Series Matches shall be the higher ranked;
(ii) In the event of (i) above not providing a decision, the Team which has the best
difference between tries scored for and tries scored against in all its Series Matches
        shall be the higher ranked;
(iii) In the event of (ii) above not providing a decision, the position on the Series table
will be considered equal (i.e. a tie).

So basically, the BFs need to win gold, and Australia must lose the SF, for the BFs to win the series. Points differential is well in NZ's favour.

@stargazer So the BFs need to be strategic in pool play to be on the same side of the draw as the Aussies..
If they can knock them off in the semis, they can then play on for the final..

I cant see anyone else beating the Aussies

@mimic Yes, although that would be a tricky strategy as they (obviously) can't control the performace of other teams. The three 1st placed, three 2nd placed and two best 3rd placed teams go through to the Cup QFs, so placing seems less predictable?

              Scott Curry (Bay of Plenty)
              Sam Dickson (Canterbury)
              Tim Mikkelson (Waikato)

Kurt Baker and Sione Molia will take up co-captaincy for the two tournaments as Coach Clark Laidlaw looks to build the leadership capabilities of the team.

“We talk a lot about who leads and influences our team. Sione co-captained the team in Singapore so he was an obvious choice. Kurt is a big influence on our team environment so it is about developing him to assist us to grow the team. It’s a great opportunity for those two boys to grow and take charge of the team.”

Unavailable for selection: Andrew Knewstubb, Vilimoni Koroi, Amanaki Nicole, Ngarohi McGarvey-Black, Joe Ravouvou, Joe Webber.

                    Half time: NZ 12 - 7 Scotland

NZ tries by the co-captains: Baker and Molia.
We're struggling a bit with the Scots. That's a bit of a worry, considering we're in a pool with Fiji. Assuming Fiji will beat us, we can't afford to drop another game.

One Scot less on the field due to a YC, and Nanai-Seturo scores in the corner. 17 - 7 NZ with 2 and half minutes to play.

Now a try to Salesi Rayasi. AB7s really taking advantage of having a man more on the field. 24 - 7 NZ

Scotland dots down in the corner after the hooter. Too late.

                          AB7s win 24 to 12.

Argies playing well here. Fiji up 14-12 at HT. Game could go either way.

In-between some sloppy play, NZ have scored 3 awesome tries.

                                HT: NZ 17 - 0 Argentina

The first try was a fantastic solo try from Baker, the second a great team try to Mikkelson, and the 3rd another great try from Curry.

                                  Full time: AB7s 36 - 5 Argentina

Salesi Rayasi scored off the re-start; Nanai-Seturo scored a try after a passage of play in which the AB7s looked like predators closing in on a prey after Baker kicked the ball far into the Argie half and the men in black chased down the Argie sweeper who caught the ball. With 19 seconds to go, Akuila Rokolisoa was sent to the bin for a high tackle on the Puma7s player who scored in the corner, but despite having a man less on the field, Nareki managed to score the sixth NZ try.

He looks pretty good. The droppsie was a fuck up but he looks to have that special balance on his feet that enables him to go on after a tackle attempt. Could be a goodun.

We are missing a stepper / ball player in the middle to create some doubt in the opposition defence (Koroi). We are going wide early most of the time and it's a bit predictable.

Our defence has also been a bit weak (that call on a high tackle for Curry was bullshit).

Why they made that hothead Baker a co Captain....seriously? The Fijian should get a game off for the shove in his face though.

Jesus makes you feel old when little kids who used to turn up to training with dad are representing NZ. Go on Salesi!

Yeah think so. Hasn't played since North America tournaments but can't remember what happened to him....
