All Blacks vs Boks

Just had a look at the replay.
Smith takes the tap at Owens' feet. Which I'm pretty sure you're allowed to do under the laws.
Edit: to further expand, he didn't move away from the mark, he moved towards the referee.

I think I am moving into the camp that Ardie does not bring enough size. Just wondering if behind kaino, squire and Cane that Fafita can do more that what Ardie does. Not for moving backwards and advocating Todd. If your 29 odd and haven't cemented a place as an AB there is something missing.
Yeah Brad Thorn!

@Siam said in All Blacks vs Boks:
Yeah Brad Thorn!

He'd made the Aussie League team a lot younger than 28 and didn't take that long to crack the ABs after he changed codes, considering how much technical stuff he had to learn.
Joe Stanley would be a much better example of a guy who cracked it really late.
-
@broughie No I just think putting an arbitrary age restriction on a current AB, (who would've been capped again this past fortnight but for a broken hand - already with 8 caps) is fucking dumb talk - fanboy or not!
Hope the coaches know the "29 years is too old" rule for selection

Or, if you can only play in Richie's position and you are not Richie/AB captain, then you are not Richie.

Glad to see DMac have a good game. He's getting some good experience and seem to improve each time. That kick to the corner was sublime.
That try though between Barret and NMS. Absolutely incredible.
Looks as though we have depth in the front row.
Happy
@Hooroo Loosehead is still an issue. Am not so concerned about tighthead as come 2019, we will have great quality in Franks, Laulala and Moli. Crockett will be 36 in a couple of years time so we really need to find some guys soon and start developing them. Not sure if Hames is the answer but hopefully he will come good.
-

I've rewatched the game sober and South Africa was for very large parts of that game, utterly dreadful. A complete inability to do anything off the lineout. A winger that wanted no part of the tackling aspect of the game.
That kick into the corner from DMac was a thing of beauty, pity the rest of his game was dross.
Hinton would be feeling pretty pleased with his commentary on Hames after that run on debut. The rest of the All Black forwards were simply superb.
-
Was the shitty lineout due to Harpo or was it more a team effort? The first lineout was one of the most panicked and disjointed you'll ever see.
-
I was actually wondering if some of the blame should be directed to Jantjes (who seldom seems to be a great backline manager to me) or whether he simply had no options. Considering the great speed of the Boks wings they didn't seem to use them very well.

So Sops to 10, BB to 15 and Dmac to 14?
Why have a midget as a winger? He really only is a FB at this point of time. He needs space to operate.
@broughie I am not so sure any more that DM needs space to operate. He did some clever(?) stuff in crowded areas up close and he has super quick reflexes. If anything, when he has time to think he makes errors. I think he is a 10 but too young and small at this level.

@nostrildamus i don't think his size is a deal-breaker. he doesn't shirk contact, and usually makes his tackles. dagg is not a great tackler, and i remember pretty recently dagg himself standing up J Barrett one on one to score very easily.
it's a definite negative occasionally in contact, and with the high ball if the kick is spot on - but it's not enough to rule him out if the other parts of his game are good enough - and i think they are, potentially at least.
same thing with all players - topically, NMS - not being super quick and a bit of a midget himself. those are downsides for a winger, no doubt. but the good things he brings can outweigh them. -

@nostrildamus Fair point but he was not Cane also, Richies deputy for a while.

@taniwharugby Did you see at 1:10 when A Smith left W Smith hanging for a handshake?
Cool to see the Boks there in the end ... they certainly shower quicker than the ABs.

Probably wanted to wash the stench of that performance off.

I didn't think things could get worse for South Africa after losses in the last couple of years to Italy and Japan but they have. Embarrassing scoreline for them.

@booboo Not one complaint so far, I think?
I think he made a huge error in the Ioane try.
Where Smith took the quick tap from was a joke.
No wonder there was huge space to kick into if the ref allows an illegal quick tap, so quick not not even Nig nor Aaron's brain could successfully compute where the line of the offence was. What chance does the defensive wing/fullback have to mentally compute this and then plug the space.
This could almost be a copy and paste from one of my posts in the 'grind your gears thread'. It really grinds my gears.

You mean directly behind the ref where the penalty was blown?

I read the Smith sentence and then was confused, A Smith had an awesome game, then clicked, right, it's the Boks performance you were meaning!
