I've just watched a story on TV3. Tu’inukuafe said he is keen to stay at the Chiefs as loyalty is a big thing for him, and they gave him his chance. But he wants to be based in the same place all year so if he goes to the Highlanders then NH could lose him too. Would the Blues make a play for him?

I'm not sure what the situation is with Mitchell Graham and his contract, and then there is the concussion problem hanging over Hames. Graham could be at risk as Ross has youth and potential on his side.

More info in the Stuff article.

The Chiefs had six contracted props at season's start, with Nepo Laulala and Atu Moli locked in till the end of the 2020 season, Kane Hames and Sefo Kautai signed till 2019, with Mitchell Graham and Aidan Ross off contract after this campaign.

I think his fractured forearm hasn't healed as quickly as they hoped.

              Absolutely.
We also don't know as much about Moli as the selectors do. The longer his problems continue the longer you'd have to think he will need to retire.

We are pleased to announce that Alex Nankivell, Sean Wainui and Liam Polwart have re-signed through with the Gallagher Chiefs until the end of the 2020 season.

                Wainui must be Ngatai's replacement.

One minor correction, Messam was born in Blenheim not Rotorua.

We'll have to acknowledge Liam when he comes onto the field instead of at the end of the match.

I'm following this game on Facebook, where they are posting clips of the game: https://www.facebook.com/pg/hstop200/posts/?ref=page_internal

According to that page, it's currently Chiefs U18 10 - 18 Junior Knights

The latter. A couple of Auckland-schooled boys in the Crusaders too I'm told.

I am sure the selections still have a lot to do with what school you go to. Lincoln Combined are 3rd in the UC Championship but have only 3 players in the Crusaders squad.

I presume St Paul's School is St Paul's Collegiate.

Yes. That was a typo on the Chiefs website.

Not many kids there from small schools. If selections only pick from the "name" schools it destroys the chances of them to compete.

I am sure the selections still have a lot to do with what school you go to. Lincoln Combined are 3rd in the UC Championship but have only 3 players in the Crusaders squad.

I assume that would be true in some cases, but in others the better players just gravitate to the the better schools. Havelock North High School isn't going to have mauch representation in the Canes schools team because good rugby players are going to choose to go to Hastings Boys or Napier Boys.

                                      Apparently, it's full time. Final score: U18 Chiefs 22 - 18 U18 Crusaders

The Chiefs scored 2 tries in the last 5 mins, the winner from Ravautaumada who ran down the sideline from 40 m out with 1 min to go. He took the ball from a ruck in front of where I was sitting and beat the defenders with pace.

As to the game, the Chiefs' backs were much more dangerous but made too many handling errors and struggled to win many of their own lineouts, including a couple from 5 m out. The Crusaders were well drilled so made less errors and used their lineout drive to good effect. You could say that the Chiefs were lucky to come back to win but if they had taken their earlier opportunities could have scored 3 or 4 more tries.

A good game to watch and a decent-sized crowd to support both teams.

There was a chiefs under 16 or 17 squad named at the end of last year, I never saw the team list but know there were players from smaller schools named. It was at the end of the year after under 16 rep season. Two or three boys from my old school, Onewhero Area School were named in it. One of those players is at Wesley now of course.

@mikedogz I should have mentioned that I was surprised only one Wesley player made the squad, as they seem to be having a good season.
