DMac’s pass to Reiko and backup for (I think) Cane’s try had me thinking that perhaps I’d got DMac wrong. But then the rest of the time I realised he was actually playing a very similar broken field game to the French halfback. So I reckon he’s a fullback who’s naturally a halfback. Not a great halfback though, just more the overconfident shortarse who runs sideways a lot kind, without Smith’s pass and vision or TJ’s physicality, and with all his kicks looking like box kicks.

Who can tell what the game would have turned out like with BFA’s counter or Dagg’s kick return.

Oh well, flush and wash up I guess.

@crash Yes, but that also applies to the ABs. Both teams missing a lot of players due to injury.

Yeah, I was chatting with a mate who because he lived in the UK for years and now Oz he's become a soccer and league fan almost exclusively (shakes head), and he was saying after the Kiwis loss that at least the ABs have all their best players playing. Then I went through the team to show him who we were missing, even I was surprised how far off our theoretical top XV we are.

@chimoaus think it was about 20 into the 1st half one was banging on about how awesome Carl Hames was!

OUr scrum was superb or shite.

@westcoastie I thought Fifita was a bit anonymous, his workrate isnt up there enough yet.

Good call - I was mostly impressed he got through the 80. Alternative may have been Scott Barrett to go to 6, but Romano was battered and bloody a bit too much probably.

BB talking about supporting the boys on Tuesday. So he won't be playing, and captaining, on Tuesday. Cane and Whitelock have played 80 minutes. Won't play on Tuesday, clearly. Did they take Read (or Crotty?) off early, because he has to captain on Tuesday? Who else to captain?

Read won't captain Tuesday. Go through the list of everyone who didn't play today and pick a captain from that... Jerome Kaino was probably the one - but hes gone.
Maybe TKB? nice way to finish as an AB Captain

Can't find the post but someone e said Thompson reckoned they hooked Read to see them without him...I wouldn't agree with that, would be a strange experiment given they never did it with Richie.

Also thought it odd BB took over rather than Whitelock

Didn't realise he still had any listeners left. If it was his usual old style vindictive rant (and I have no reason to believe otherwise) then he was probably just throwing it in as a warm up to continue on delivering the ones famously/fanatically throws in the Black Caps and the NZCC (or whatever they call themselves now) direction.

So I've just finished my read back through the thread, it's always quite entertaining, first half everyones positive in happy, second half it's all this players shit, that players shit etc. I'd be exactly the same but it's fun reading it after the fact.

Gardner is usually my favourite ref but he was a bit all over the place in this match - it was like he decided he was in France so he'd be as confusingly inconsistent as a French ref. I don't think it really benefited one side or the other. He got played by the French 9 though.

I'm in the "they pulled Read on purpose" camp. Also surprised that they went with BB as captain, would have thought they'd have gone with Cane or Whitelock.

I still feel we're playing within ourselves but it's annoying to see some average rugby at times even so. But we're a weird bunch in that we can't be happy our team won by 20 points.

They have to sort that scrum-half shit at the back of rucks. Lions were doing it too. Shouldn't be able to role the farking ball up and down like a toy until it's in your favourite position.

Bit of a crap second half, kicking out of hand has been shit, we let France off the hook, and no real leadership shown by the senior players. Having said that I think Naholo has been very good value this half.
