this is awesome. I can swim quickly when swim-fit, but those distances are excellent. Good luck on your goal.

One important point I want to add is that doing lots (as in 500m or more 2-3 times a week) of kick training with a board (at a fast pace , not slow) really helps to lift and streamline the form through the water. You know the point where you can just power along the top of the water as fast as most swimmers. That will help your 100m target.
I'll go for a swim in the next week or two and get my 50m current time (completely untrained).
It'd be interesting to hear from others, too.

The only downside is that kickboard is an absolute farking cnut. My swimming kryptonite to be sure. What's your best 50 time?

Our boy has started swimming lessons, with Mum or Dad, but right now I can’t swim with him as I have a small -very tasteful- tattoo on my right shoulder (fucking Japan). As a result, I have to either tape my arm or use a big plaster (which usually comes off, so is out) or buy a swim suit that covers the top of my arms.

So, since many here have a bit of experience with this, is there swimwear like that for guys? I assume so, therefore are there any good brands to go for? Things to avoid? I doubt I’ll start swimming heaps, but if I have to invest I’d rather spend money on something I could use if I end up swimming more.

I'm confused and super curious, how bad can the tattoo be that you can't show it in public? They are pretty mainstream these days.

I cover north of Auckland for him. Tatts also save having to decorate a skin coat.

That’s my fallback, but if I could get a good swimsuit then I coouuuuuld start swimming. After reading the stuff on here, I’m thinking about it. But, I’d have to swim in the rash shirt if I went that way and I’m hoping there is a better option..

    How small is your tatt?

    This might work:

Nobody is going to complain about the ink...

Would be shit having to wear a rashy for laps in a pool.
    Get the tattoo removed?

What an utterly retarded dilemma. Is this the law across the entire country or just that pool?

It's cultural. Some baths/ onsens don't mind, others will have you cover them up, and still others won't let you in regardless.

That would rule out pool sessions for most league players.

Yep, as @mariner4life said, it is associated with Yakuza. There are specific baths where tattoos are cool, which is where the Yakuza go. It's kind of cool to go a local sento and take a bath next to some mafia guy - they are usually pretty cool to talk to. On certain beaches, you have to have to cover tattoos too, so be aware of the guy wearing a long sleeve t-shirt at the beach - almost certainly Yakuza.

Generally, as a non-Japanese I just do whatI want and apologize later - so when I play golf I just go in to the bath, and if the cleaning staff say anything, apologize, in which case they say remember for next time, which I 'forget'. But, at the swimming school they know I speak Japanese pretty well, and I don't want to be kicked out of the pool with my boy...

So, returning to the topic - no suggestions of actual swimwear anyone has seen or used? I didn't anything on the Speedo site unless I go full Triathlon wetty - I bet that's not allowed either.

Reckon a tshirt rash vest would be your best option. You can get pretty lightweight ones. Just remember to go for snug, you dont want it tenting up on you when you hit the water... ah.. you know what I mean!
