That happened to somebody while I was in Rio... sounds like another urban myth, but I seem to recall having people at the hostel who'd witnessed it.
Although in that case - I have a (possibly false/distorted) memory it was the pilot who wasn't attached? And let himself drop off almost immediately, knowing it was a softer landing... leaving the tourist to pretty much "do their best".
