<p>When a car manufacturer wants to snoop at a rival's technology, they try to be discreet. Unfortunately for Honda, Porsche pieced the clues together.</p>
<p>It's not unusual for a maker developing a new vehicle to see what's under the rival's hood. As <em><a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://www.autonews.com/article/20160725/OEM03/307259976/how-hondas-purchase-got-found-out-by-porsche' title="">Automotive News</a></em> reported, that's what Honda did during the development of the Acura NSX.</p>
<p>They wanted a peek at the "highly regarded" Porsche 911 GT3, in particular its steering.</p>

<p>So a member of the NSX's development team strolled up to a Porsche dealer - in the usual "look like an average customer" style - and bought a 911. (Normally, the dealership is oblivious to the fact their rival is buying a car. And that's how the rival, in this case Honda, wants it.)</p>
<p>Much to the glee of Porsche, that's not how things worked out, Honda's vehicle dynamics project leader Nick Robinson told <em>Automotive News</em>.</p>
<p>When the <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/news/a7107/fire-risk-sidelines-every-porsche-911-gt3-built-to-date/'>GT3 was recalled to fix a connecting rod issue in the engine</a>, Porsche took a look at the car's black-box data. The penny dropped. The team Porsche knew who the car was bought for and couldn't help but have a little fun at Honda's expense. </p>
<p>"Good luck Honda, from Porsche. See you on the other side," read the note left under the 911's engine cover.</p>
<p>Robinson told <em>Automotive News</em> Honda also bought a McLaren 12C during the development of the US$157,800 NSX hybrid. (Sidenote: Yes, that's a pricey NZ$221,953 for the NSX.)</p>
<p>While McLaren never cottoned on to Honda in that case, the dealership did raise eyebrows when the car was returned several times for remedial work, Robinson said.</p>
<p>"They wanted to know, where did you go 205mph (329kmh)? What track?"</p>

<p>Kellner was after the thief like a shot, getting to him when he was about 15 metres away and pinning him to the ground with the help of one of her friends - also an off-duty police officer.</p>

<p>"He realised quite quickly that it wasn't worth struggling," Kellner told The Local Sweden.</p>
<p>"I just acted on instinct," she said.</p>

<p>Sitting on the ground, waiting for the apprehended pickpocket to be taken away by some on-duty colleagues, she realised the sight might be quite funny. But she was undaunted.</p>
<p>"I would have stepped in no matter what my outfit. Had I been naked I would also have intervened. Nothing will stop me."</p>
<p>Kellner posted a picture of the take down on her Instagram account, taking the opportunity to remind people about the tactics used by pickpockets.</p>
<p>The theft was "like magic", she said.</p>
