@canefan have to compare him with TJ and Nisbett. Not sure TJ is better at all.

Hope they get Merhts for expert comments. Or Mexted for comedy value

Those three would be great. Mex's clumsy unintended sexual innuendos wouldn't sit well with the #metoo set though 😉

    Fuck them.

    Consensually?

what he meant to say was "they can fuck themselves"

actually that's an interesting question. Is it possible to sexually assault yourself? Like, i don't really want to jerk off, but i am going to anyway. Or if it's to some questionable materiel that you are a bit ashamed of?

I have to say I have been very impressed with the new sport streaming service here in Australia called Kayo(foxtel offshoot) . For $25 a month cancel anytime it is the answer to all my rugby needs. I split it with the mother in law as you can have at least 2 logins at a time.

It works well, you can skip forward quickly without problem. They have loads of different sports and have replay options for a little while after the game. This system would work well for RWC and I hope like hell they have rights for next year.

I was always pissed off having to buy a package from Foxtel so this is awesome. I assume Sky may do something similar in future.

The flipside to this is Optus, a phone network got the rights to the Soccer WC and it was a giant fuck up. The stream was poor quailty and kept buffering. It was so bad they allowed a TV broadcaster to show it for free just so people could watch games. Let's hope Spark and TVNZ have a decent system.

Very tempted to jump on to that myself. My cousin has been talking about going halves. Do you know how it works with number of devices?

Only thing holding me back is sometimes I might wanna watch it on my smart tv while other times when I'm out and about I'd want to watch it on my phone.

@hooroo yeah I like him too, I know some dont.

Think the Sky team needs a freshen up anyway.

I reckon Marshall would be better suited to an analysis role, where I think he has great insights, but as a live comments man....

Can Marshall be the set piece analysis guy? His analysis of how the defence and offence is set up is so good and often picks exactly what the offence is planning.

He genuinely adds value, for me at least, in that role. Best I've ever heard do it. The rest of the time he needs to shut up. He can do post match too, just don't call the game and please please please quit talking about rules.

@rembrandt Hey mate, you can watch it concurrently on two devices. You can also watch it on Ipad. Phone etc. I watched all the All Blacks games with no problems, same time as mother in law. They have all the replays for the northern hemisphere tour too. It really is good value for the money if you can split it with someone. I use google chromecast to put it on the TV no problem.

I guess Sumo wants to call AB games, fair enough. Might have to reign his use of nicknames and personal anecdotes with the players.

I like his actual call of the games otherwise.

As we said on that other thread about commentators, it would be nice if they sounded like they enjoyed rugby instead of complaining all the time.

Agree entirely. Used to enjoy it, but it had a shelf life.

I'll give Sumo massive props for his work ethic. He has his fingers in so many things and by no means is a hack. Aside from being the third string commentator for Sky, he did the studio show, pre/post work, edited the Sky Sports magazine, runs the Rugby Pass podcast, puts out a book a year, involved at the Spinoff, jumps on the ACC and seems to do plenty of corporate work. Absolute machine.

That said - don't care too much for his takes or style. He simultaneously tries to play The Rugby Hipster paying homage to anything non-All Blacks and then tries to put across that he is on nickname basis with every current and ex-All Black. He fails on both counts coming across as Rattue II at times and a bit of a sycophant at others.

Looking at his cryptic (or craptic) Twitter posts about Hansen's reappointment last week I hope he gives TVNZ better, more accurate and less biased journalism.

Oh and now that Sumo is gone from Sky can we please, please, please get TJ back hosting the weekly panel show.

If that gets TJ away from the commentator's mic then I'm all for it. However, Sky seems to be using Wilson more as the studio host.

@chimoaus I was thinking of joining this - but my NBN has been down for over 24 hours now, which gives me pause about using a streaming only service. Plus, I get Telstra rewards (cheap movies) with my Foxtel ... I might use the threat of going to Kayo to lower my monthly rate.

Sumo is a superbly talented presenter, commentator, interviewer and writer. The good news here is that he is staying in NZ when a host of overseas media outfits would have gladly signed him up

I dislike his used of nicknames when interviewing All Blacks as if he is one of them. Hope TVNZ and spark insist he calls players by their names.

Sparky how long have you been representing Sumo?

I reckon Craig Cumming has more of a chance parlaying the Dilmah Tea Party into a US late night network talk show than Scotty attracting overseas attention.

Am I the only one having issues with Kayo? As I said on another thread I have not gotten through an evening of rugby without it cutting out.

Seems to work ok for me, occasionally I will get buffering but I'm not sure if thats my internet connection as I'm on wireless NBN. Have you tried different devices, like Computer, Ipad, phone etc?

I've had cut outs on the computer and iPad, but I'm primarily going to use the iPad as I cast to the TV.

I get proper cut outs/re-starts but I don't often have buffering issues. I don't have issues with my other streaming services.

@Nepia I've never had a cut out of any sort. Might be worth sending a message to their support. I use chromecast and it works well. Hope you can get it sorted.
