What time (NZ) ball park will the games be played? If over night, I will likely just record and watch on TVNZ delayed apart from finals footy which is live on TVNZ?

Japan is 5 hours behind us. So a 3pm start would be 8pm NZT or 7pm start 12pm NZT. One hour won't be too much of a hardship

Big gets for TVNZ. Hopefully they can get Ben Atinga as a special comments guy.

Sumo: "So Ant, from you world cup experience just what is it about this tournament that makes it so difficult to win?"

Stachan: "Well from my single start at the tournament against Japan it is probably a bit difficult to say too much."

Sumo: "And what about you Isa, just how tough is it playing at this tournament?"

          Nacewa: "..."

The only thing I care about is if it actually bloody works - good to hear they've been investing heavily

I signed up for the one month trail and have been watching the F1. I'm on a 100Mbps connection so I have no trouble streaming from a reliable source.

The first race I watched the following day. No problems, the picture looked close to 1080p

The next race I watched live and there were a few issues. The server was under more stress and the frame rate dropped to ~10fps and the audio would drift out of sync.
The stream seemed to have problem adjusting the picture quality to the stream performance. Eventually I stopped and started the app multiple times to force a lower quality image.. once it downgraded the quality the performance was fine. The picture was slightly below 720p with some compression artifacts

So they need to improve their capacity

Also, the app UI is rudimentary. Maybe that's deliberate while they concentrate on the core service.

What device are you watching it on?

Was looking in to it last night and the kid/bot on the sparksport live chat advised me that they had yet to release apps for Samsung TV (which we have) and a few others but was expected to come out in June for Samsung and then July/Aug for LG, Song and Panasonic. Would only work with 2017 TVs or never

I'm not techy so trying to work out how it all will work before paying my $60 (which I think is reasonable value)

Wow! So if your TV is less than 2 years old you aren't watching on TV?

I'm not going to buy the package and see how I feel during the cup. I think I will probably just watch delayed coverage of pool play as semis and Final are live on TV1??

Yep - if you have a wifi network, then just buy a Chromecast - or an HDMI cable to connect straight to the TV. It's pretty straightforward; way way easier than even 5 years ago.

@JK yep, either new or refurbished.

If you have Chrome on PC, there's a 'cast' button that you can use to throw your screen to the big tv, and the sound through whatever teh TV plays.

Some websites (like YouTube, for instance) are coded to cast - once they detect you are casting, they stop playing it on the screen and just send it to the TV. Others aren't so sophisticated, and you have to just share the screen, and then make the video 'fullscreen'.

It's surprisingly easy to do once you start. Also, my 'mate' tells me that there are some < ahem > dodgy internet streams of major sporting events that can be surprisingly high quality. If there are sports events not covered in NZ (overseas cricket series, for instance), this could be one slightly dodgy way or viewing them.

general rule of thumb: good hardware makers make bad software; good software makers make bad hardware.

It's not entirely true, but anyone who has tried to use a 'smart TV' inbuilt browser or app will understand this. (disclaimer: I haven't used a modern smart TV, but haven't bothered doing anything except connect a phone/laptop to the screen for years due to painful frustration)

What device are you watching it on?

iPhone sending it to an Apple TV

                              That’s what I’ll be doing
iPhone to tv via Apple TV couldn’t be easier

I've got a newer LG, so looking forward to the app being out. Great thing about it is the remote is a magic mouse type thing, makes it so easy to use. I find that some streaming/casting can have a tiny delay from image to sound, which can be bloody annoying, normally OK using ChromeCast, but sometimes not

Apple TV app should be good to go before RWC so no need to Airplay from iPhone.

Just heard that the Samsung App is now available.

Also, managed to pick up a cheap Apple TV which I hooked up and works fine.
