A couple of guano apes tracks[/quote]

Guano Apes, I really like their music. I didn't think they ever made it anywhere in NZ though right? Being a German band, I got to know of them quite well when I was there in 2001.

Another couple....

and also this one, Sandra Nasić (their lead singer) sings with Finnish cello band Apocalyptica.

Apocalyptica are a really fun band. They even did an album of Metallica covers
I think I'm going to pay the piper and see Rammstein live. Not crazy about their records, but love I their vids and spectacular concert dvds. True performance artists in the best traditions of the German expressionists - and they rock, too.

On that topic I saw a post on facebook the other day from one of my son's mates..."Just waiting for my fich and chips and saw a guy blow his nose on his hoodie. Upper Hutt producing the world's finest citizens"

Local indie record store up was just playing an album called Innerspeaker by a band called Tame Impala. Good psychedelia. Have not heard of them before - apparently from Australia so might have a presence down there and NZ (?). Don't know what their other records are like, but keen to hear more.

Yeah, go see and them live, it's well worth it. I saw them at Big Day Out this year, and they put on a really good show.

They were actually better than Tool IMO.

I have known about dead prez since dave chappelles block party and while i enjoyed that performance I've struggled to get into any of their other stuff. Militant and more than a tad racist for my liking.

yeah they ride that line but overall I reckon they are pretty smart how they go about their music. For me its a case of 'I like your old stuff better than your new stuff' (love that regurgitator song!).

In terms of political rap this guy is my ongoing fav
Mates got together on the weekend. The discussion: Do we drive to Toronto (one hour away) to see the show on a Sunday - Toronto being a city where cynical spectators fold their arms and cynically dermand to be impressed-or-else --- or do we drive to Montreal (seven hours away) where they party their asses off for any excuse, and this particular excuse will be Rammstein on a spring Saturday night?

Debate was over before it began. We're going to have a van with eight 40-50 year olds making the drive to Montreal.

So Rammstein were good then?

Saw Stone Temple Pilots at Vector last weekend, they put on a great show - as expected to be honest. Scott Weiland is actually looking relatively healthy these days.

HLAH opened for them, pulling out a few classics like Wet Rubber, Hootenany, and their cover of I'm on Fire. They also cracked out a few new tunes, so I wouldn't be surprised if they put out a new album this year.

Which led me and my mate to think, what big 'rock bands' that could fill an arena have been formed post 2000. There weren't many I could think of.... most that I can think of started in the 90's or earlier.... Pearl Jam, Green Day, STP, Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers etc etc
Me? The show isn't 'til early May. (It'll be the first arena show I've seen since Nirvana in the early 90s.)
