Black is a great track. So are a number of of tracks on their first two records. The rest is kinda meh.
Porch is a fucking ripper.
I think if you did a "Best Of" of their albums post Vs it would be brilliant. But I take your point on the albums being meh.
Vitalogy has some great moments as does Yield.
Look, I was a Pearl Jam fan-boi from hell.
But - now - I would never try to listen to an album other than Ten or Versing.
Well - actually - I did try recently, but gave up VERY early in.
I would recognise the songs from Vitalogy, No Code, Yield, and probably cringe a bit - but everything since - if my music collection was on "mass-shuffle" - I might recognise Eddie's voice, and think "ah, probably from that Avocado album". -

Yet, I wouldn't have a clue what they are now. Testament to the (non)lasting effect of those albums.

What cracks me up about Phil Collins' In The Air Tonight is how there's all these theories about the great mystery of what this song is about.
"It's about how he saw some guy drown and felt guilty about it because he was only a kid."
Any non retarded reading of the lyrics reveals that it's obviously a revenge fantasy about his ex wife's new boyfriend. So, divorce themed, as are 90% of his songs.
Well, if you told me you were drowning
I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend
But I don't know if you know who I am
Well, I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies. -

What a tiresome prick Morrissey is but by fuck this is a good tune.
Always liked that, although not huge Smiths fan.
Funny thing is that once, in naughties on flight back to UK from NZ, young chick sitting next to me asked me if I was in the band!

Ten has to be one of the greatest debut ever albums released. Black is a favourite of mine, but Garden is also right up there. So many great songs
You want to know something frightening? “Ten” is 30 years old this year.

That's incredible isn't it. I remember being at a mates house and he was always first to get into new music and he put on Ten and I was instantly hooked. He also got me into Pop Will Eat Itself

He pretty much said as much in his book. His wife had an affair with the bloke painting & decorating his house. When the song premiered on BBC TV, he put a paintbrush and paint on a table next to his keyboard.

With all due respect, GFYs, and enjoy a post-coital cold bag of dicks afterwards.

Oh the mid life angst! Realising that your teen years are a long way behind.
Most of my teen years formative music likes have been having their 40 year retrospectives over the past few years. At least you get re-issues and remasters.
That MC5 clip is almost 50. You should be more upset that whatever your heroes did was a derivative of something done 20 years previous -
So the new Foo Fighters album kinda sucks hey?

I've always unconsciously thought of Pearl Jam as new music
You. Old. fluffybunny.
