@mn5 regardless of anything I've just whacked Core on whilst working.

Dead & Bloated followed by Sex Type Thing is an absolutely cracking combination of songs to debut on a debut album. Two banging' tunes if ever there was.

Really really heavy and solid rhythm section with decent melody on top. Drummer is absolutely smashing the skins.

    …..and you’ve got Wicked Garden next !!!!!!!! What a trio !

But then Purple starts with Meatplow and Vaseline…….See what I mean about this amazing band ?

I mentioned it before on here but Jeff Gutt absolutely nails it these days despite sounding uncannily like Weiland at times.

@mn5 I think you are literally the only muso I know who really digs STP & would put them above PJ.

Most people think they are a bit of a rip off of other music from that era.

I dig them as well though, they have some banging' tunes in their back catalogue.

I'd still choose Pearl Jam over them though.

and you would be wrong, but that's cool

    Two wrong's don't make a right.

Anyway, did a Core / Purple combo yesterday after reading this to see what I thought.

Core - it is a great album. Loses it's way a bit in the middle, but the start & end combo are freaking awesome. Had me right back to being a teenager again.

Purple - not so much. Has some good tunes, but feels a bit same to me. Love the bonus track at the end though.

    It's no Ten / Vs.

Laibach covering Queen's One Vision in german was a great prank.

"One world, one vision" takes on rather a different tone ...

Oh yes. Geburt Einer Nation. I played it within earshot of Mrs JC (German) some time back and she powered in shouting “What is this Nazi shit.” Pointing out it was a Queen song didn’t really achieve much.

@jc Someone cunningly started a rumour that it was the first and secret single from a reformed Beatles, to pump up sales.

Life is Life is still a banger. 😉

Guess the video is age restricted due to the 200ms of tits at the start.

@tim The last track on the album (Little Neutrino) is surprisingly good. Not everybody’s cup of tea…

I mean those lyrics really are begging for that treatment:

    Hey!
    One man, one goal
    Ha, one mission

    One heart, one soul
    Just one solution

    One flash of light
    Yeah, one god, one vision
One flesh, one bone, one true religion
One voice, one hope, one real decision

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
    Give me one vision, yeah

    No wrong, no right
I'm gonna tell you there's no black and no white
    No blood, no stain
All we need is (one worldwide vision)

One flesh, one bone, one true religion
One race, one hope, one real decision
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
    Whoa-yeah, whoa-yeah, oh yeah!

I had a dream when I was young
    A dream of sweet illusion
A glimpse of hope and unity
And visions of one sweet union
But a cold wind blows and a dark rain falls
And in my heart, it shows
Look what they've done to my dream, yeah!
    One vision

So give me your hands, give me your hearts
I'm ready! There's only one direction
    One world and one nation
    Yeah, one vision

No hate, no fight, just excitation
All through the night it's a celebration
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, yeah
One, one, one, one, one, one, one
One flesh, one bone, one true religion
One voice, one hope, one real decision
    Give me one light, yeah
    Give me one hope, hey
    Just give me, ah
    One man, one man
    One bar, one night
    One day, hey, hey
Just gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme fried chicken!
    Vision, vision, vision, vision

I’d rate both STP albums as being about the same in terms of being equally awesome.

….and considerably better than anything Pearl Jam have done.

Pearl Jam are just so safe, boring and uninteresting in comparison.

Killer Riffs: A Guide to Parody in Popular Music

From the Residents’ freakish Beatles sendups, to Spinal Tap’s meta-metal escapades, to the gastronomic goofs of “Weird Al,” a chronicle of those who have turned pastiche and mimicry into an art form across the last 50 years.

Yep. Played on rumours of an un-released Beatles album called The Sun IIRC. Sub Rosa Subway was supposed to be a reference to Macca's Red Rose Speedway.

    1978-I'm feeling real old...

Watched them live decades ago - the intro before the vocals come in went on for about 5 minutes. Ace concert.

@mn5 Listened to Tiny Music & No.4 today and have concluded that after Core, for me, STP are purely a best of band. Some good songs in there, but not enough to have me listening to them all the time.

    Sour Girl is cracking track.

It is. One of many top tunes from them. Tiny Music was a very good album too ( a step down but that’s no surprise, no band can keep up that level of awesome )

I need to listen to No 4 again, that’s today’s car music sorted !
