Not exactly the mosh pit is it
Not my thing so I hadn't watched the video until you posted.
The rest homes of London must have been empty. Never seen such a large number of uncoordinated people failing to keep the beat
This is exactly what I imagine those pre-covid days concerts in vineyards must be like. Hell.

The chick on the violin was hot.
Thatās about as positive as Iāll ever get about ELO.

Looking forward to this:
āSome of Us Went Through Hellā: New King Crimson Doc Trailer Reveals Agony and Ecstasy of Legendary Band
Doc will show, according to co-founder Robert Fripp, āThe rock & roll lifestyle of glamour and excess in fine detail, including getting on and off buses, living and dying, resentment, a little humor, and even some musicā

I saw those guys play about 30 years ago on a tiny stage. The acrobatics the two fat guitarists pulled off on that small space was something to behold, believe me.

hugely underrated band

In The Court of The Crimson King has to be one of the best debut albums ever. Really was a new sound. The first fully prog rock album as opposed to bands playing with raga, classical or mediaeval music and a much darker, heavier vibe.
I have every Crimson studio album but rarely listen to them nowadays and only really the stuff up to Red
-
@dogmeat I've heard good things about the 1980s KC (particularly Discipline), but I haven't listened to that era myself.
Did anyone else see The Crimson Projekct when they played in Auckland back in 2014? Obviously no Fripp but Belew, Levin and Mastelotto were involved.

The thing I don't understand is why they even show shots of the crowd.
The song is cool, the stage setup is awesome, there's about 20 musicians up there who I'm sure are all superb given Lynn's legendary standards, Lynn himself is pretty damn charismatic for a 70+ year old & you have superb wide screen visuals of a packed out Wembley Stadium.
Why on earth show shots of old people dancing like they live in a rest home to completely ruin it?

Boxset 4-cd compilation of early live performances and radio sessions is really good.
-
Not a 'listening to' but for anyone interested in the production side of music this is a good read.
-
Deep Purple doing a fantastic rendition of the song that should have been far more famous than Smoke on the Water. Richie,Jon and Ian in particular absolutely nail itā¦..
I also love the stiff upper lip British restraint in the crowd, like a bunch of corpsesā¦.

I like that 80ās trilogy. Belewās lyrics notwithstanding. Discipline is all-great. Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair have really good moments, but as a whole are weaker. You can burn a pretty good 80-min cdr comp from them. Iām a little biased. I saw the Discipline tour, Three of a Perfect Pair tour, and Thrak tour. Three of a Perfect Pair is not a remarkable album, but that concert easily makes my list of Top 5 all-time shows, and it wasnāt just the acid.

Now, if you want my list of Top 5 All-Time LOUDEST Shows, thatās easier:
- Swans

I did once see Fripp play a solo show of Frippertronics in the early/mid 80s, just him seated on a stool with his guitar and a reel-to-reel on a chair next to him. He played for an hour, I sat feet away directly in front of him and was completely hypnotized. I have very few correspondences from musicians, but he wrote me a lovely handwritten letter about 25 years ago that I treasure and invited me to visit him in New York, and sadly could not make it. (Iād written him about his solo āBlessing of Tearsā album, and the accompanying long essay about the death of his mother. The album is 8 live versions essentially of the same song, but is so sad & beautiful, powerful and moving it feels like one long piece. Itās a fucking epic recording.)
