Of course you’d pick Gav ahead of Cullen.

Cullen never played for Scotland you dingbat.

Bugger, Scotlands chances of getting out of the pool have decreased by about 50%.

Strange timing, right before a WC.

      Arguably Scotlands best ever Fullback.

      Andy and Gavin say hi

      That’s why I said arguably.

Never saw Andy play. Gav was obviously a bit of a talisman for them but sometimes seemed a bit slow even for that era.

Shit at kicks from out in front against England too.

      But very emotional

Gav was fucken great though. Better than any AB FB of his era.

Ok, probably equal to John Gallagher, but better than the rest.

Couldn’t get in ahead of Gav, that’s why. Settled for Tier 2 in the end.

Talking of Andy Irvine, who remembers when he used to kick for touch from penalty using place kickc WR outlawed it fairly quickly?

True. Cullen did have a Scottish Grandmother but it’s hard to displace a guy like Gav. He moved to Paekākāriki after that and thankfully the All Blacks gave him a shot

No matter your allegiance, it sucks when you see a great player getting retired early by their body.

One of my all-time favourite players. Bit lippy at times on the field but backed that up with action. Huge loss for Scotland

Best described as JPR-lite (compliment, not a criticism). Probably best in the world in the late 70's and one of the nicest blokes to play rugby by all accounts.

Hogg is easily up there with him and Gav.

Georgia have announced an official partnership for the next 11 years with the South Africa Rugby Union. Includes a Georgian team in the Currie Cup next year, plus various work together on stuff such as Academies, further age grade level fixtures etc.

fair play to him, he's pretty driven and everyone who's ever played with him rates him as a player and a leader - Lions is a good example - that's a good enough yardstick for me. Don't really care whether other fans think he's a dick, he's our dick. Shame he feels the need to take a break but hope he enjoys his season for Sarries and hope it gives Borthwick the chance to try and play some rugby.

Not sure Smith deserves the shirt at the moment, his game and his kicking definitely falling off after the world cup at club level. Probably leaves us with George Ford or Finn Smith who i haven't seen enough of to have a strong opinion. We have quite a few players either retiring or injured which could make for a painful 6N if the Irish, French and Scots are smarting after earlier than planned exits.
