@Bovidae I don't think Read would make my top 5. Brooke, donkey and Vermuelen way ahead.

@Bones Neither Rodber or Vunipola would make my top 10. I am surprised Lochore didn't get a mention for AB no.8s, but there is definitely a bias towards more recent players.

Great play, but hardly consigns Teichmann to the scrap heap.

It was a No.8 backtracking against a No. 9 after all

"However the two parties have now agreed a new deal, which will protect the lowest earners in the Irish game." Minimum potatoes guaranteed.

To be honest, same with every case of reduced wages in rugby I've seen reports on, a big push by the big names to make sure the Jo average pro doesn't get shafted. Which is good to see

Good achievements but in the wider discussion, having the 7th best test win percentage of Number 8 international captains (minimum tests 10, 5th if the minimum is 15) isn’t exactly a fantastic stat to put him in a world best team.

From NZ only he trails Shelford (10 matches, 96%), Read (52, 85%) and Lochore (18, 83) for wins as Captain at No. 8.

He doesn’t even lead for SA no 8s, behind Du Plessis (15, 86%).

Captaining SA to unbeaten Tri Nations season and 17 wins on the bounce in my house.

He captained the Springboks in 39 tests between 1996 and 1999 with 27 of those (72%) ending in victory.

                                      That was the point.

Both Du Plessis and Teichmann better options than Duane.

Overall, not in with a shout.

You’ll have to forgive me, because from your two word post of Gary Teichmann, and subsequent defense, it wasn’t clear to me that you were refuting the selection of Thor.

I think I see it now that I actually read the thread. What a fucking hassle.
