I'll pop this in here, feels wierd agreeing with Eddie. Yes rugby needs more speed and less bulk, and yes you have to really want to play for an international side

@Machpants speed up the game! Maybe make the squad larger...gave different players for defence and attack that you can roll on and off? Limitless substitutions...

        Non-story.

Pick players who can pass and put a man in space.

Dunno why we are speculating about whether international rugby matches will proceed in 4 months, at the moment we can't even predict whether Victorians can order Uber Eats next week or whether NSW'men can sing at a fucking wedding on the weekend.

          Yeah, I'm grumpy tonight

@MiketheSnow mate that's a tap. Hill should change his name to Hollywood.

            It's a deliberate forearm/elbow to the temple.

Crumpled Hill and fucked his knee in the process.

Dirty, dirty, premeditated shit from Grey.

Look at Grey's lookback. He fucking knew.

Grey had a stormer in the second half possibly feeling he would be cited at least and miss the possible deciding third test.

You're looking back with 2020 goggles, sadly. I agree that it should have been red, but back then the video ref was non-existent for foul play and shit like that never got cited. Plenty of examples like that and worse from that period.

Read suffers for his last few years but 2011-2016 he was awesome and world's best in his position. That's a decent stretch at the top in this day and age, coupled with the fact that he's a 2x RWC winner, 100+ tests, World Rugby POTY.

I'm also amazed at how highly rated Hairy Donkey is given that fact that he was often up and down like a yoyo in terms of output. He had a couple of awesome matches against us, granted, and he had a very high ceiling. To my mind, though, he just didn't produce often enough.

@Machpants The Tests are still scheduled to happen according to World Rugby. It is amazing that the NZ Government have refused to reinburse NZR for the cancellation of the June internationals which their quasi-dacronian quarantine policy made impossible. The stubborn inflexibility of the NH club sides in refusing to allow the tests to shift to August/September didn't help.

Que? August/September for tests was never on the cards. Players wouldn't have been allowed travel. And seasons had to be completed.

November Tests to be replaced by eight-team tournament

                              https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/53552277

This year's Autumn Tests are set to be replaced by an eight-team tournament in which the Six Nations sides will be joined by Japan and Fiji.

It will begin on 14 November - two weeks after the final round of the 2020 Six Nations is completed.

Wales' game with Scotland, Ireland's trip to France, and England's match in Italy have been scheduled for 31 October after being postponed in March.

The other outstanding tie - Ireland v Italy - will be played the week before.

Scotland's meeting with Wales appears more likely to be held at Twickenham than in Cardiff.
No decision has been taken yet on whether fans will be allowed into the Six Nations matches, but the RFU is hopeful supporters will be able to attend games in the new tournament.

RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney said last month the union is planning for up to 40,000 fans to be able to attend the Twickenham Tests, pending governmental approval.

England will face Wales, Ireland and Fiji in one group, with the latter two fixtures at Twickenham and the venue of the first game still to be decided.

In the other pool, Scotland will host Japan and France at Murrayfield and face Italy in Rome.

The tournament will be staged on four consecutive weekends until 5 December, with each team facing their equivalent in the other pool on that final weekend with the venue to be decided.

Official confirmation of the schedule and the venues is expected in August.

It means Gregor Townsend's side's Autumn internationals against Argentina and New Zealand have been cancelled, while the one against Japan could be moved.

Japan is the big growth opportunity and already interested in Rugby. Well done the 6N, but can't help but think that NZR and SANZAAARSE have missed a trick here. We should have been beating down their door, not sending invitations to the bloody Aussie Super sides without looping in their board.

Totally different situations (country vs club/franchise). The JRFU showed absolutely no support for the Sunwolves and all the power resides with their company teams. I'm sure NZR could organise a test against Japan at short notice (again) but that won't mean Kobelco, Panasonic and Suntory would want to join any Pan-Pacific SR competition.

The JRFU showed absolutely no support for the Sunwolves and all the power resides with their company teams. I'm sure NZR could organise a test against Japan at short notice (again) but that won't mean Kobelco, Panasonic and Suntory would want to join any Pan-Pacific SR competition.

@Bovidae I know, but right now we have no engagement with JRFU at all.

6N has the right season timing, and Japan playing in their comp. We should have some linkage there - although the seasons are really hard, the timing is great for us (and them).

Someone above said NZR has no mates, and it's kinda right. If the ABs trip up and stop being the dominant international force, I don't think we have a Plan B.

We don't know who NZR has been talking to, as all the news coming from Aust has been Fox spin.

You'll have to fall further than David Bowie.

                                        Stand easy.

1998 feels really painful still, losing 5 on the bounce. There is not much at the top level; it only takes a few bad years and you can become a mid pack battler. Our dominance feels fragile -- while we produce amazing talent, it's hard to keep ... and harder even if we aren't making big bucks overseas.

Money talks, and while C19 is a blip, long term the player drain is really hard to combat. You just have to look at dynasties that fall apart to know that success is never inevitable or long term
