@mariner4life Your first choice backline should be really good.
Maybe if we had two ALBs (or one ALB and one Maori Jesus) it would but we have a huge whole in the midfield, so much so that I mentioned Wainui as a starting midfielder earlier in the thread. :face_screaming_in_fear:

A quick scan through the Chiefs FB page has a comment from a good source (re: Tupaea's non-selection). If he signed a SR contract he would be ineliglble for the NZ U20s and he wants to play for them.
That must apply for all players. Let's see if Fakatava gets selected.

@bovidae seems a daft rule...ultimately signed to NZR, so surely they can make allowances where required.

Based on the news about Hames, Ross would be the frontrunner to start at LH but Moli and soon to be AB O'Neill are options. Chiefs should have a strong scrum either way.

@taniwharugby yea I think if the franchise agrees they can be released for the U20 Worlds a la Caleb Clarke last year. If hes not in the fulltime squad he would most certainly be on an ITC. ITC can still play SR in the event of injuries to other players. The SR franchise needs to get approval first though from the NZRFU. What a mature decision from the young man if indeed he has turned down a fulltime contract to ensure he plays at the U20 worlds.

Waaka is from Taranaki isn't he?

I think the family still lives in Hamilton so he probably spends the off-season in the region, and it would make sense if the Chiefs need a larger squad.
I might try to get down to a training session next week to have a look at who is there.

In that photo, who is the plonker with the staunch face trying to pop his arms?
I’ll admit to doing that when I was at high school, and I guess these guys aren’t much beyond that, but I hope he gets plenty of twitter or gram about it.
