LOL thinking too much about their possibly undefeated record!

Yessss, Nathan-Wong scores under the sticks after a great break from Tui.

      She converts her own try.

      FT: NZ 17 - 17 Russia

Winning streak over, unbeaten streak not.

@Machpants It was to be expected, with so many of the experienced players ruled out. No Michaela Blyde, Kelly Brazier, Gayle Broughton, Theresa Fitzpatrick, Kat Whata-Simpkins and Portia Woodman.

@Stargazer That's a good point, I don't know the players - just thought that lot weren't upto the normal standard!

Just checked, and the BF7s lost big against France: 7 - 29. I was afraid of that with all the rookies in the squad and half the regulars in the injury ward.

Still made the Cup QFs. The BF7s will play the USA at 1.52pm tomorrow.

Australia, England and France are all on the other side of the draw (with Ireland).
On our side are further Canada and Russia.

BF7's had one of their worst tournaments in ages. Lost heavily to France, drew with Russia, beat Japan, then lost to USA in quarter final.

Given they hadn't lost a game since the Olympic final in 2016 ... yep

Excellent first half from the BF7s, leading 29 - 0 at half time. That newbie Faleafaga playing very well, awesome fend and powerful. Some really great tries. Nathan-Wong's re-starts are great. Aussies hardly getting the ball.

Game of two halves! As good as the first half was, as bad was the second. Aussies finally got the ball and scored 4 unanswered tries; NZ bench not as good as the starters? Or thought they'd already won?

In the end, BF7s still beat Australia 34 - 26, so finish 5th.

We're used to them winning, so maybe disappointing, but considering all the injuries, not really a bad result.

Oh no, another one of the stars is out of action for a while. The BFs are losing all their best and experienced players to injury.

By the way, not mentioned in the media release, but they are still missing due to injury: Stacey Waaka, Gayle Broughton, Theresa Fitzpatrick, Kat Whata-Simpkins and Portia Woodman. Good to have Blyde and Brazier back though!

Haven't seen the games, but the Black Ferns beat Russia 26 - 7 and China 45 - 0, early this morning.

The only - potentially - difficult pool game will be the next one against England (who also easily beat Russia and China).

All the other usual suspects (France, Canada, USA, Australia) have also won their first two pool games, although Fijiana put up a good fight against both France and the USA (Fiji the last minute and half with 6 players due to injury), and France only narrowly defeated Spain.
