@mariner4life The scarier thought is editing human embryos and creating super humans. That is more likely than dinosaurs imo. Wont be long before parents can choose what their children look like, height, eye colour, hair colour, intelligence etc.

science: dire wolves are not closely related to grey wolves after all.
you: but what about dodos? My family and I were having a long discussion about dodos yesterday. Fascinating creatures and history. But it's not really relevant to this. More relevant is the question of what is a species? Colossal have given their viewpoint quite clearly, but it isn't the only one.
I read this earlier today:

I really didn't expect a hybrid wolf subthread on here.
The whole science is fascinating, but scientists are not all on board with saying this is bringing specific species back, some argue they are hybrids, some argue it is highly controversial given related modern species have so many problems (elephants for example) and ecosystems have changed so greatly (how would a thylacine do today?) And of course ethical problems, which reminds me of the film Gattaca (one of NZ's better contributions to SF IMHO). -

Pretty sure that’s already here. Either that or my parents just got unrealistically lucky.
