It’s still not even touched down and we are already on an evacuation warning here, as are a few other places in Yokohama and Tokyo. It’s moving slowly, which sucks a bit.

Heaps of rain - not much wind yet - saw on the news this morning that they predict we’ll get up to 800 mls of rain within this 36 hour period, and up to 1000 down around Shizuoka where it should hit first.

To put that in perspective, October is one of the heavier rainfall months with about 135 mls on average. Some places will get that in an hour (perhaps more). Our little garden already has about 2cm of standing water, so I’m a bit concerned.

So, we’ll see how strong it is as a typhoon, but just for precipitation, things are already very worrying - mainly because they get concerned about landslides with this much rain, which often come down on the houses built on the flat land below. That was what made the storms in Hiroshima so bad a couple of years ago.

    https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/special/01/1919/

Anyway, as it is moving pretty slowly, I think it will be a very long day and Sunday games in Iwate must be up for the chop. I’ll bet that the Japan game happens, the trains are due to start running at midday tomorrow (will all be shut down here by midday today).

But the Scots are suing RWC for costing them a chance at a QF. Now that's priorities

Obviously the authorities didn't want people moving around in the city. But it's a shame they couldn't play the game earlier in the day if they knew the storm would hit later in the evening

been in a bunch of tropical cyclones. had the eye of Winston go right over us, 2016, a 35min calm lull before the lethal destruction started slamming us again from the other direction. Despite all the forecasts you never know where they are going to go. Or when. They speed up, slow down, go sideways, even backtrack. The forecasting is not exact.

                    Well, it’s pretty bad.

We haven’t left but there is flooding in our city, nearer the river, so we are now hoping that the flooding doesn’t extend around to our area.

Having said that, we put the car on the 2nd floor of the wife’s work, and put down a barrier for flooding, so said fuck it and started drinking.

                    Beer and chips right now.

Drinking beer is a great strategy for seeing off a Super Typhoon. Stay safe!

Cheers, our apartment has multiple floors, so if it is that bad, we’ll just go camp on the floors above. Plus the wife’s work is literally 300 meters away, so we can just take over her office. Their (and our other local) convenie is still open!

Fucking hell, now there is a little earthquake in Chiba. Not too strong, so hopefully not too much damage. Poor bastards.

Thing is still yet to hit Shizuoka!

Honestly, I'm think I'm mostly happy that you have stayed away from those "instant donuts" you said you had.

                                      That shit sounded disgusting...

                                      Ha ha.

We opened a bottle of Faiveley (Macon villages) Bourgogne blanc and we have some bread, Brie, ham, salami, and salad going right now (while watching to see if the river bursts it’s banks).

Still have the donuts on standby though.

Went for reccy to see if the flooding was near us, and the 7-11 is still open. Can still get beer and a freshly made fried ‘nana’ chicken if you want.

I don't know what fried nana chicken is, but it sounds pretty good to me!
