Can't go past Tugga and Afghanistan for the Waughs.

Further back, Greg Chappell went through a bad patch and briefly got christened "Chappello".

I just thought it was a variation of his brother's nickname. Ian Chappell was Chappelli

Those both come from the scorecard:

        Chappell, I

        Chappell 0

          4 Nobody (John Eales: Australia)

He was never called that. It was one of those "nicknames" that people thought were cool, but actually are quite try hard. Nobody (heh) gives a fellow player a nickname that implies he's actually perfect. They call them "Tugga" or "Beaver" or "Goldenballs".

Cullen was called the Paekakariki Express, but that's an epithet (like Alfred "the Great") not a nickname. Who calls their mate "Paekakariki Express"?

Best nicknames go to the NFL. There are so many that you can make a roster out of them.

                  QB: 'Big Dick' Nick Foles
                  RB: 'Beastmode' Marshawn Lynch
FB: 'The Face Cleaver' Leonard Weaver
                  WR: Andre 'Bad Moon' Rison
                  WR: Michael 'Hee Hee' Jackson
                  TE: 'Black Unicorn' Martellus Bennett
                  OL: 'Concrete Charlie' Chuck Bednarik

DE: Arthur 'Don't Cross Da' Moats
                  DL: Will 'The Fridge' Perry
                  LB: Sean 'General' Lee
                  CB: 'Honeybadger' Tyrann Mathieu
                  S: 'The Assassin' Jack Tatum

                  Kicker: Greg 'The Leg' Zuerlein

Yeah. We know. But still funny.

Yeah, there are nicknames given by team mates, nicknames given by fans and nicknames given by journalists or commentators (which can be more like epithets; I doubt anyone in the Old Trafford dressing room called George Best "the Fifth Beatle").

The very best nicknames e.g. Pinetree/Iceman/Whispering Death end up being used by all three groups.
